Does Vote Buying Affect @steem-ua Upvote Weight?

After reading through @steem-ua's introduction post again, I noticed that the upvote you're getting on your post is determined by your own UA score and the UA scores of the people who have upvoted your post.

UA, as a Reputation / Influence metric, has quite some interesting applications. @steem-ua utilizes one of them: since every Author Account has a UA score, so does every Post Voter. Instead of looking at the SP a Post Voter owns, @steem-ua, our own Algorithmic Curation Service looks at the UA score of the Author and all its Post Voters. -- UA Introduction

Now, wouldn't this mean that you could basically manipulate the vote strength @steem-ua by purchasing votes from either SmartSteem or Minnowbooster? On SmartSteem for example, you can choose whether you want to receive more big votes or smaller votes.

Source: Smartsteem

I would assume that the accounts behind those bigger votes also have higher UA scores, so you'd be getting a higher vote from @steem-ua as well, since you have bought votes from accounts that have a (potentially) high UA score.

Am I missing something here or is it indeed possible that vote buying could affect @steem-ua's upvote value?

I can't get excited about ua, because it's not open source. If a person has a question such as your post, we should be able to dig into the code and find the answer.

Just say no to centralized "reputation" type systems.

Yeah you're not the first person who's mentioned that and I think it's a very fair point to make. I really like the concept of it, but being able to look at the source code seems like a must in order for this to get full community approval.

I think it has to be open source otherwise it is meaningless. If it is hidden, it could be anything and could be changed at any time if the good ol boy network needs to tweak it to keep their group at the top.

My first red flag was all the top 20 witness being at the top of ua. Sounded to me like the good ol boy network thinking they needed to have the top reputation. Making the most money from the platform just wasn't good enough for them...

It definitely should be open source, and I have my doubts about the @steem-ua project. But I don't agree that the top 20 witnesses making a lot of STEEM is a bad thing. Whoever does the most work towards developing the platform/blockchain should get paid the most.

While some of the top witnesses may be a bit "lazy," they usually work several hours a day on STEEM-related tasks, if not a full work day, and receive much less than a normal salary to do so.

I wasn't complaining about them making a lot of steem. I've just read a lot of posts implying they are somewhat of a good ol boy network. Some put there by questionable means. All kinds of theories and such about the top 20...

My concern is that they have setup ua so the top witnesses are also tops on ua. That just seems like a red flag to me.

Good question! I look forward to seeing if they have a response to this. They have put so much time into the new reputation system that I have to believe they will have an answer or a fix. This is the sort of thing that could sabotage what they are working to correct. Thanks for sharing!

Not sure if I'm correct, but if the curation algorithm takes post voters' UA score into account, then i would think you can indeed manipulate that.

Your logic is legit. Like I said, lets see if they respond!

I think you are right about the possibility to influence the UA upvote value. However I don't think that will be easy. As some accounts are only created to sit at a bunch of SP to lease out for making a profit. Those accounts probably have a very low UA score.

What is your UA score? And what upvote values did you get?

Your ua score is 2.105 and you have a ua rank of 22430. These are my numbers. I didn't get any UA upvote as I didn't lease out any SP.

I've noticed getting upvotes from real people when I bought some votes with SmartSteem the other day, I'm definitely sure that their UA scores are pretty high.

Your ua score is 3.281 and you have a ua rank of 7723

I got a vote of 0.65 and one of 0.35

Hoe vond je mijn UA score?
Ik had hem gisteren opgezocht en vond andere cijfers.

Your ua score is 2.105 and you have a ua rank of 22430.

I do like the concept but you raise a very good point, I am not a fan of bid bots, but do like the concept of UA it would be a shame if bid bots factor into the vote you get

I don't see how they wouldn't be a factor, especially when we're talking about buying votes from regular accounts through Minnowbooster or SmartSteem. I think it would be difficult to leave those votes out of the calculations for steem-ua's vote percentage.

yes your right of course, ohh well I guess good luck t those that use them

Well, it is in fact a strange thing. I really am curious how the algorithm works. Because your UA rating is lower than mine, but your first vote was 3 times bigger than mine, and we delegated the same SP... Very strange, but still it is early to draw conclusions...

It's based on your UA score and also the score of people who have upvoted your post. It's definitely not based on how much you delegate.

I haven't had a vote from them yet, I'll let you know how big it is when it happens. My delegation only went yesterday.

Have you had more than one yet?

Yeah I've received my second one yesterday, it was smaller then the first one. Around $0.35 I think, the first one was $0.65

Still good for a 100SP delegation. I'm still waiting..., my latest post is out there and waiting for a vote from them.
