El vals es un género musical (ritmo bailable) que nace en el siglo VII en el Tirol, Austria luego llega a Austria para engalanar las reuniones sociales de la alta sociedad convirtiendose en el baile preferido de la nobleza, para luego expandirse por toda Europa. La palabra vals nace más tarde al introducirla en la ópera y el ballet. Esta estructurado bajo la figura de 3/4 osea: tres negras en cada compás con variaciones armónicas sencillas y elementales pasando de tonalidad mayor a sus relativas menores para felicitar el baile . Los más grandes exponentes de este género musical son: Johann Strauss, Frederick Chopin. El vals se introdujo en Venezuela después de la guerra de independencia y con el, el piano, instrumento con el que se interpretaban y acompañaban los bailes de sociedad, siendo sus principales exponentes: Teresa Carreño, Ramón Delgado Palacios, y Pedro Elías Gutiérrez, autor de la Zarzuela Alma Llanera, entre muchísimos más. El vals: "Isla de Margarita" fué compuesto por Dámaso García y Juan Cancio Rodríguez, es una hermosa creación que nos narra las bellezas naturales de la isla de Margarita, está versión está escrita e interpretada en mi menor, con una modulación a sol Mayor en la segunda parte, osea empieza en: relativa menor de sol Mayor, que es mi menor, modula a Sol Mayor y concluyó como empieza, mi menor, pasando por si séptima re mayor, y la menor. Quise compartir con ustedes está explicación de lo que es el vals, cómo nace y donde y como llegó a Venezuela, y mi humilde interpretación de este hermoso vals. Aunque no toco el instrumento me acompañé con el cuatro, nuestro instrumento tradicional.
