Resurrection of the Most Divine Ayurvedic Herb

Can you see a small pot at a far end?

Today is #TreeTuesday and I’m gonna talk about a wonderful Ayurvedic herb called Giloya or Guduchi. It is also regarded as one of the most divine herb. It’s useful in several diseases. We have a large Giloya vine in our garden and use its stem to prepare a hot concoction to wipe out fever.

We also had a small potted plant which was kept on the roof for some unknown reasons. But I used to water this plant regularly along with other plants kept on the roof. Unfortunately, about 5-6 months back, I found this plant uprooted and all its leaves and branches mischievously torn down by someone. My father put the stem back into the pot. I regularly watered this stem for some months but there was no sign of any life in it. I had lost all hope of its revival and discontinued watering it during the harsh summer months. But I didn’t bother the stem & the pot; and left them undisturbed which was kept in one corner of the roof.

In past few days, with the arrival of the monsoon rains, that stem suddenly sprung to life. I know, Giloy can grow even if its cut-off several times and that’s why it is also named as Chinnaruha (छिन्नरुहा) or Chinnodbhava (छिन्नोद्भवा). But I didn’t expect it to emerge from the 2-3 months of dry spell when I completely stopped watering it. It was like a miracle to me.

So here are some of the pictures of this plant after its resurrection from the dead:
