Happy Tree Tuesday! ~ Fall is Here, SoCal Style
Most places in the Northern Hemisphere, the arrival of Fall is signalled by the changing of leaves into red, brown and orange colors. But here in California, the blooming of the Ceiba speciosa tree's beautiful rosy-pink blossoms with creamy yellow centers is a certain a signal that Summer is fading into Autumn. Native to Brazil, this is a tree best enjoyed from a distance, as those thorny projections can snag a passerby more interested in his smartphone than his surroundings.
These lovely flowers will be followed by large capsules that will split open during the next Spring, releasing strands of white, flossy hairs, giving this tree the nickname "Silk Floss Tree."
