People just want trees, big trees and small trees. But they don’t have enough space in the city.
There must be something wrong in the heads of those architects, city planners, real estate developers and government officials. Why? They cut down all the big tall trees which used to grow everywhere in Bangkok during the last one hundred years because they wanted to modernised and expand the city while property development projects made lots of money from hundreds of new housing projects.
Trees seemed to be in their way of construction and hard wood could be sold to wood saw mills. Later for exterior design reason, new young trees were bought to plant along the road; these made for nice commission from the bidding companies. There is never ending opportunity to make extra money for tea along any public construction projects. That’s probably why we have unsuitable trees with very fuzzy form and many small branches which always tangle with electricity and communication cables.
Ordinary people do not have much say when officials come along and cut all the old trees lining in front of their houses which have been giving nice shades during the hot days. So, they have to try their best to compensate for the loss of green environment by planting small trees in pots and place them by the wall. Walking around small side roads and alleys , you will see the ingenuity of local people in their effort to surround themselves with green environment.
Someone tried to grow a banana tree in a bucket!
Have a nice day.
Cheers.
I've noticed this when I went to Thailand. There are trees everywhere I go! I think that perhaps a lot of animals lost their homes when the land was cleared of the trees. This is a sad story really. I can't believe those people are trying to grow a banana tree in their backyard in a flowerpot!
