in #travelfeed6 years ago (edited)

Today I want to share with you a set videos from YouTube. It is not my own file, I copied the embedded links here for reference purposes only.
But before we proceed with the videos, I want to invite you guys to come and visit our place this month of October. As we are celebrating the Masskara festival from October 07 until the 28th day of the month. People living in nearby cities, provinces or even foreigners from other countries invades the city of Bacolod just to witness and have some fun together with us.

What is Masskara?

Masskara derived from two combination words " Mass " means many and " Kara " means faces. Masskara is a festival celebrated in City of Smiles " The Bacolod " and this 2018 is the 39th Masskara Festival.

Masskara is made of fiberglass and it is formed similar to human smiling face using a molded clay. The second option is to use a paper mixed with " Kula na gawgaw " or " Starch paste " the process of making paste from starch is by simply mixing the starch and water. The viscosity of paste depends of the amount of starch. To avoid making watery or overcooked paste you have to set your stove in small flame and gradually add starch to get the desire consistency while stirring the mixture. Then let it cool before you start molding your mask on the molded clay.

How difficult to dance while wearing this masskara with huge headdress?

Dancing is a way of expressing different moves, hand gestures and includes facial expressions. That anyone can perform some basic steps in a matter of time by keep on practicing. But what if you need to dance while wearing this heavy masskara that usually weighs from 2-5 kilos, plus the huge headdress that requires precise movement for you not to hit the next people dancing beside you. Worst your name will be included to the list of participants that collapsed during the street dancing competition from the previous Masskara event. To be honest it's not that easy, because I already tried wearing the mask and it's difficult to make any necessary movement if you're not used to it.

The street dancing usually starts at exactly 2 PM or after the countdown. Then there are set of loud speakers at the street that only plays the same song " The Masskara music for 2018 "

Take note : The more you are getting nearer to the venue the crowd is getting more congested. I suggest better come early as possible and find a place where you can position yourself open for viewing. Because if you won't do that unless your a tall person, you can't take a decent shots for your social media uploads.
