SAT in Korean or poor Korean schoolchildren
Walking, of course, is good and many people love this business. And in the fall, when trees dress up in colorful clothes, when the hot, sultry summer finally calms down and gives way to autumn coolness, the soul rushes to the street, to the open, to meet freedom.
I want to walk, walk, walk. Especially, if you think about the upcoming Korean winter with merciless winds.
But alas, not everyone can afford such freedom. Students have recently passed the intermediate session, and now everyone is also sitting in a spacious classroom, gnawing at the granite of science. For Korean schoolchildren, too, the holidays will not be soon.
But least of all, probably, non-lucky undergraduates, who November 15 had a D-Day , that is, a unified state exam , something like the Russian SAT or the US SAT. I did not pass either the SAT or the SAT, like the Korean exam. But I'll try to tell you what it is in South Korea.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to me that in Korea, the Unified State Exam is more important than in Russia. At least they take it much more seriously ...
Like the USE or SAT, the Korean General Exam (let's call it KSAT ) affects university entrance. That is, depending on how many points an undergraduate or undergraduate will gain at KSAT, to such a university and to such a specialty, he or she can apply. And if you take into account the Korean hierarchy and the importance of levels, the desire to score high points and get into a top university is unconditional.
Moreover, not only the future applicant, but also his parents, family, relatives and friends are preparing for this exam.
The exam goes all day, in the most direct sense. I will tell about how it was this year.
At the place of the exam you need to come to 8 am. But the exam itself began only at 8:40. And ended at 17:40.
The test consisted of 5 parts, including 5 subjects:
- State exam, that is, Korean (80 minutes);
- Mathematics (100 minutes);
- English (70 minutes);
- History of Korea, Study of society, science and profession (102 minutes);
- Foreign language and Literature (40 minutes).
This year, KSAT was held on November 15th. And most companies postponed the start of the working day to 10 am or even before lunch, so that parents can safely conduct their children for the exam.
In addition, this year 2,000 taxi drivers volunteered to bring schoolchildren to the exam venue.
The guards do not remain on the sidelines. Police cars and motorcycles also drive students to the exam. Therefore, if suddenly your child is late for KSAT for some reason, urgently call 119 and ask the police to take the student.
There are also different incidents. In Korea, there are many cities whose names seem virtually identical, especially for foreigners. So, one taxi driver took the poor student to the city of Masan instead of Asan, or vice versa ... I don’t remember exactly. But the distance between these cities is about 60 km. So, the schoolboy would not be able to get to the city in time. Well, that allowed to pass the exam there, where he was taken by would-be a taxi driver.
On this day, many cafes and shops decided to support schoolchildren by giving various kinds of discounts in their institutions. To obtain a discount, it was necessary to show the examination sheet, so for those who did not pass the exam, there was no freebie.
Exam results will be announced on December 5th. I wish all schoolchildren and parents to get high scores!
