Travel Digest

#1 Santa Cruz Trek - 51km in 4 days by @globetrotterin

Last year I was in Peru, where I did the most beautiful hike in my life. Namely the Santa Cruz Trek, which is 51 km long and takes 4 days. I arrived in Huaraz on Wednesday evening and immediately met Evelyne and Leonie in my hostel. They booked the Santa Cruz Trek for Friday as well as another German because they arrived one day before me. Since I arrived from sea level at 3000 meters, and the trek goes up to 4700m, I was not sure if one day acclimatization would be enough. So the next day I went to the office of the company and they said, since I was already up to 4000m, it should not be a problem. So I also signed up for Friday, but with some reservations. Evelyne and I spent Thursday getting equipment such as gloves and caps and, most importantly, snacks. Friday morning started early, at 6am we were picked up at the hostel. Our trekking group consisted of a Lucerne couple, three Germans, a Canadian and me.

#2 "Elephant Haven Thailand" an Ethical Sanctuary with Happy Elephants! by @bkkshadow

Many elephant parks in Thailand are less than ethical when it comes to using elephants to make a tourist dollar, this isn't one of those places. When my wife said she wanted to make merit for Buddhist Lent day by feeding some elephants, we set out to find the right place to do it. I was hesitant at first because I hate seeing animals abused, however when we arrived at the sanctuary ti was quite clear we were at the right place. Many places promote themselves as sancuaries but then engage in unethical behaviour and exploit the elephants for tourist dollars, but not here…There were no chains, no bull-hooks and no elephant rides or saddles. Winning!

#3 An Afternoon Walk Along Hollywood Boulevard by @bkkshadow

I took an afternoon stroll along Hollywood Boulevard to experience it for myself. We've all grown up with the glitz, the glamour and the style of Hollywood, however I found it was much grittier in real life than I expected. As I walked along the long strip of shop-houses, bars and restaurants I took some pictures of the sights and people I saw to try and capture the overall feeling. Hollywood. I hope you enjoy these pics, as I tried to catch the real essence of Hollywood, not just the picture-perfect one we see on tv. Its a lot more real in the flesh.
