in #travelblog5 years ago (edited)

Karlovy Vary, also known as Carlsbad, is a town located in Czech Republic, only about 130km from Prague. The legend says that Emperor Carles IV found here springs with a magical power. With spring water he could heal his injured leg. After that he ordered to build a town. Nowadays people of all around the world are calling this place ‘’SPA town’’. Karlovy Vary is a place where to find a peace, good food and 15 healing springs.DSC_0459.JPG

Step One – sleep with a view

There are dozens of cities and towns where hotel choosing isn’t very important, but not in Karlovy Vary. Hotel or apartment, with breakfast or without – it’s not so important. For your perfect stay in Karlovy Vary choose a hotel or apartment on the hill with a balcony and view to the town.

Ohh, believe me, those evenings on your balcony with Karlovy Vary in sunset you will never forget! I traveled to Karlovy Vary with my family and we decided to take an apartment. To get to it we needed to walk about 7min up to hill. We had balcony, 3 rooms, all the furniture and kitchen stuff we needed. And one more important moment – the price was very friendly. Actually Karlovy Vary isn’t very expencive and that makes this travel even more nicer and hotel choosing – even better.

Step Two – 15 healing sips

In Karlovy Vary you can find 15 hot springs in 7 different collonades and arbours. All springs are rare and unique natural resource – mineral water. It contain most elements of the periodic table and more than 40 elements vital for the human body. The quality of mineral springs have not changed for centuries.

Drinking mineral water is the most important part of Karlovy Vary visit. In every corner a small shops are selling special souvenirs – 100ml and 200ml big cups in interesting forms. Buy one! It’s the main souvenir in Karlovy Vary! And then go, explore those hot springs and try mineral water.

In first moment Karlovy Vary looks really strange because most people are having these strange cups in hands. But it’s the part of this town. And I think, it’s the most beautiful part of it. It’s something that cannot be replaced.

Step Three – leave laziness at home

Third step of your perfect weekend in Karlovy Vary includs walking, exploring, looking and enjoying. Karlovy Vary is a very beautiful town. Most of the architecture are in the Renaissance style. In center you can meet a lot of beautiful colonnades, historical buildings, parks, viewing platforms and mineral springs. I don’t want to make a post for Kalovy Vary with TOP places to see or visit, because in this town if you are walking, you will just see everything. It feels like just going straight and straight through the town. And you know, beauty is all around you!

There are also some very good viewing platforms and walking roads above Karlovy Vary – Peter’s height lookout, Castle Tower, Deer jump lookout and other. Don’t be lazy, every step in Karlovy Vary is worth it!

Step Four – eat, drink, repeat

After a long walk it’s time to take a meal and some drink! Before leaving this beautiful place you need definitely to try some of the most delicious traditional Czech foods. I haven’t tried all of them but I know at least the best meal after what you will feel full and happy!

Goulash in a bread bowl – originally goulash comes from Hungary. It’s made with meat, vegetables and paprika (traditional Hungarian spice). But with a time also Czechs discovered a goulash and started to adapt it with their own tastes and local ingredients. They made new different varieties. Goulash came a part of Czechs traditional food. But goulash in bread bowl is something special that need to try everyone!

Apple Strudel – the history of strudel is more than hundreds of years old. First mentions of strudel appear in Austro – Hungarian Empire. It included countries like Austria, Hungary, Czechoslovak Republic, Croatia, Romania and other. In eastern Europe apple strudel is beloved dessert and worth to try.

Karlovy Vary wafers (Karlovarske oplatky) – traditional and very popular snack in Karlovy Vary. History begins around 1800. They are flavoured with different tastes like vanilla, chocolate, hazel nut, lemon and others. It’s my favorite snack to go while walking through this beautiful town. Karlovy Vary wafers have a huge popularity and it’s the best souvenir for your friends and family.

Becherovka – and of course, how without a traditional drink? Becherovka is a traditional herb liqueur, that is produced in Karlovy Vary. First drink was sold in 1807 and from that time popularity is only growing.
