YourMateTravels#22 - Game Club & Hanging With The Yakuza [EN/GER]

The gamer’s eyes were lit when Flo spotted an awesome gaming club on Pattaya 3rd Road - as a gamer simply an experience he MUST go for.
Since most other options in Pattaya are tourist rip-offs or simply don’t float our boat the decision was easy! Being an old ego-shooter enthusiast myself I would’ve joined but was T-Rexing all the way. Why? I overdid the first training at the Calisthenics park, got a tendonitis in both elbows and therefore couldn’t get my arms straight. Yes, I was retarded for the past 5 days. Call me Timmy.

Die Gamer-Augen waren hell erleuchtet, als Flo einen fetten Game Club auf der Pattaya 3rd Road entdeckt - als Gamer ist diese Erfahrung ein absolutes MUSS.
Nachdem die meisten anderen Optionen in Pattaya Touristenabzocke sind oder uns einfach nicht in den Kram passen, war die Entscheidung leicht! Als alter Ego-Shooter-Enthusiast hätte ich gerne gleich mitgemacht, habe aber leider den vollen T-Rex gemacht. Warum? Ich hab’s beim ersten Training am Calisthenics Park übertrieben, eine Sehnenentzündung an beiden Ellenbogeninnenseiten bekommen und konnte die Arme nicht mehr ausstrecken. Ja, ich war die letzten 5 Tage behindert. Nennt mich Timmy.

Ha. Ha. At least Flo had fun laughing at me for days.

1 hour = 20 THB (0,52 €), 3 hours = 50 THB (=1,29) and so on. 8 hours is about 2 €.
We walk in and Flo asked which games they have: every game. “Do you have Overwatch?” “Yes.” Flo turns around and looks at me with two glowing eyes.

1 Stunde = 20 THB (0,52 €), 3 Stunden = 50 THB (=1,29) und so weiter. 8 Stunden ungefähr 2 €.
Wir gehen rein und Flo fragt, was für Spiele sie haben: alle. “Habt ihr Overwatch?” “Ja.” Flo dreht sich um und sieht mich mit glühenden Augen an.

After one hour of gaming he is on fire. Flo books 3 hours and plays with a pal back at home (actually the one on the right here) while I take my time study at the hostel.
As I come back he’s in the tunnel. So I take a few more shots of the 56 stations in here:

Nach einer Stunde zocken ist er Feuer und Flamme. Flo bucht sich 3 Stunden und zockt mit einem Freund daheim (lustigerweise mit genau ihm rechts hier), whärend ich mir im Hostel Zeit zum Lernen nehme.
Als ich zurückkomme, ist er im Tunnel. Dann mach ich mal eben noch ein paar Fotos von den 56 Plätzen hier:

All high end gaming machines, 26” screens and super-comfy seats. They have gamer snacks like Nutella- and peanut butter sandwiches, chips and sweets. Also the regular healthy drinks along with that and coffee.
They’re open 24 hours, organize LAN-parties and are quite the perfect place for a gaming marathon with like-minded people:

Alles High-End-Gaming-PCs, 26” Bildschirme und superbequeme Sessel. Es gibt auch Gamer-Snacks wie Nutella- und Erdnussbuttersandwiches, Chips und Süßigkeiten. Auch die gängigen gesunden Getränk sowie Kaffee sind vertreten.
Der Laden hat 24 Stunden offen, organisiert LAN-Parties und ist insgesamt der perfekte Ort für einen Zockermarathon mit Gleichgesinnten:

Alright. I meet Flo back at the gaming club and we go for a beer. Walking through a touristic street we can’t find a bar that fits our needs. So many hookers, everything looks the same.
We come to a place that looks more promising. Still not really convinced with the tourist stuff we walk a little bit in the back and find a place with great hip-hop & RnB music. They’ve got a terrace and look quite underground. A lot of bikes park right beside it and we can’t spot a tourist! Awesome!

Nun gut. Ich treff also Flo wieder im Gaming Club und wir gehen auf ein Bier. Wir gehen durch eine touristische Straße und finden nichts, das uns wirklich anspricht. Viele Huren, alles sieht gleich aus. Schließlich kommen wir zu einem Platz, wo es besser aussieht. Noch nicht gänzlich überzeugt gehen wir ein bisschen nach hinten und finden eine Location mit fetter Hip-Hop & RnB Musik. Da gibt’s ne Terasse und es sieht recht underground aus. Eine Menge Motorräder/Mopeds stehen daneben und wir können keinen einzigen Touristen sehen. Sehr geil!

We aren’t quite sure if it’s ok to join since we only see asians. Slowly we walk towards the tables and still hold open our option not to sit down and simply walk by if we feel unaccepted.
As we come closer: all eyes on us. Fuck.

A waiter comes over and kindly asks us to sit down. Quite a smoky voice he’s got there.
We order 2 Chang.

Flo spots one guy walking up to the neighbouring building. He turns his head both times to see if he’s being observed and then proceeds to knock the thin wall: 2 times 3 knocks. (What does that mean? 2 Farangs?)
Then Flo looks at me “Dude, there’s someone behind that wall of the other building.” “Where? What do you mean?” “That one guy just walked up to it and did a knocking sign.” “What.”
People unconcernedly smoke weed, beautiful ladies in dresses sit at some tables, three Thai guys sit down on a table next to us and order a bottle of whiskey and some food.

I look at Flo “Do you think they are…?” “Damn, I don’t know. Could be.” “Do they exist in Thailand?” (Yes.) “They should be all over the world.” “Yeah...”
Being quite insecure at first we agree that the Yakuza are a group of honorable men. They also have businesses to run and surely appreciate paying customers. As far as I know they want to be seen as friends of the citizens and would therefore avoid bad press. In Japan they’re even like a private security service. Nothing to fear for us. After thinking about it for a while, we actually feel pretty safe.

We still decide against drinking another beer here, since we don’t want to interrupt their program. One waiter looks different from the others, does different tasks and has different clothing. He’s quite active and his jawbone moves a lot - some of you know, what that means.
As I ask him for the bill I see a marked face, look at the tattoos on his arm, come to a conclusion and look Flo in the eyes: “Yep.” “You think?” “Yep.”

Wir sind unsicher, ob wir uns setzen sollen - schließlich sehen wir nur Asiaten. Langsam gehen wir auf die Tische zu und halten uns die Möglichkeit offen, uns nicht hinzusetzen und einfach vorbeizugehen, wenn wir uns unerwünscht fühlen.
Als wir näher kommen: jeder schaut uns an. Fuck.

Ein Kellner kommt her und bittet uns freundlich, uns hinzusetzen. Eine recht rauchige Stimme hat der.
Wir bestellen 2 Chang.

Flo entdeckt einen Typen, der zu einem benachbarten Gebäude geht. Er dreht seinen Kopf in beide Richtungen, um zu sehen, ob er beobachtet wird. Dann klopft er gegen eine dünne Wand: 2 mal 3 Klopfer. (Was bedeutet das? 2 Farangs?)
Dann schaut mich Flo an “Hawi, da sitzt wer hinter der Wand?” “Wo? Was meinst?” “Der eine Typ ist grad hingegangen und ein Klopfzeichen gemacht.” “What.”
Leute rauchen unbekümmert weed, schöne Frauen ind Kleidern sitzen an manchen Tischen, drei Thais setzen sich an den Tisch neben uns und bestellen eine Flasche Whiskey und Essen.

Ich schau Flo an “Denkst, das sind…?” “Verdammt, I was net. Kann sein.” “Gibt’s die überhaupt in Thailand?” (Ja.) “Die sind normalerweise überall vertreten.” “Joo...”
Zuerst sind wir einigermaßen verunsichert, einigen uns dann aber schnell darauf, dass die Yakuza ehrenhafte Männer sind. Die haben auch Geschäfte, die laufen müssen und freuen sich über zahlende Kunden. Soweit ich weiß, werden Sie gerne als Freunde des Volkes gesehen und vermeiden deshalb bestimmt schlechte Presse. In Japan sind sie ja quasi wie ein privater Sicherheitsdienst. Nichts zu befürchten. Nachdem wir eine Weile darüber nachgedacht haben, fühlen wir uns ziemlich sicher.

Wir entscheiden uns trotzdem gegen ein weiteres Bier, da wir ihre Party nicht stören wollen. Ein Kellner sieht anders aus, als die anderen, verübt andere Tätigkeiten und ist auch anders angezogen. Er ist ziemlich aktiv und sein Kiefer bewegt sich schnell - einige von euch wissen, was das bedeutet.
Als ich ihn um die Rechnung frage, sehe ich ein gezeichnetes Gesicht, schaue auf die Tattoos auf seinem Arm, komme zu einem Schluss und schaue Flo in die Augen: “Yep.” “Glaubst?” “Yep.”
