The Famous Nine Arch Bridge
FINALLY! Finally we had the chance to visit this landmark we have kept at the back of our minds for years!๐
Since we saw that very first trending Instagram picture with the famous 9 Arch Bridge it stuck with us as one of the most popular and well-known tourist attractions of Sri Lanka! Like one you would put on a postcard and everyone knows where it is coming from even before seeing the stamp!๐ฑ๐ฐ
You know, like Eiffel Tower!
Ohhh, and busy this place is, our young paddawans! (Star Wars ref.๐) Go early in the morning, as early as the first rays of sun come out and youโll have the place for yourself!
More on the tips and tricks and literally EVERYTHING about Sri Lanka in our blogs and vlogs coming soon!๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฅณ

Yea, it does. But the story behind the bridge is that it was finished in 1921 by local Sri Lankans with consultation with British constructors, but apparently initially the original material supposed to be used for the bridge was metal but the construction started right when the WW I started so the material was used for military operation etc. so to continue the construction rocks, concrete etc. was used.
What a lovely design for a bridge! I assume it is partially darkened by decades of smoke from passing trains? What a cool find! ๐
I really think so! Before you said it i didnt think of it but when you say it, about the fumes, it totally makes sense! But the bridge itself is a pure artwork! Very beautiful! ๐โค๏ธ

Wow that is pretty spectacular! I bet a ton of hard work went into building that, it looks like it took a heck of a lot of bricks!
Wow! Please tell them that if the trains stop running under there to let me know. I want to send a box of swallows over there, as it's an ideal nest building bridge hahaha
At times the handiwork of man really amazes and do you know if there were less curves in the steel design?
Maybe not, as they might have followed the original design?
Blessings!
What a beautiful place this will be
