How To Prepare When Taking a Long Trip !!

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit Friends,

I am currently on a long flight, traveling to the other half to the world. To where you may ask?, I am still keeping that as a surprise. Here's how I get ready to manage my jet lags.

No body enjoys a hang over after a night full of fun and heavy drinking, well jet lags are just like hang over's. After a long flight your mind and body may become disoriented, some popular symptoms of jet lag are confusion, poor concentration, lack of sleep at night or feeling too sleepy during the day and the body generally feels weak.

This can be avoided or reduced when you do the right things before, during and after a long flight. Below are some tips to help you manage that jet lag after a long flight.

Try to adjust your body few days before the flight.

Preventions is better than cure. Adjusting your body according to where you will be travelling to in terms of sleeping time and eating patterns will go along way in helping you adjust faster when you arrive to your destination.

Plan well in advance to prevent getting confused.

It is better to plan your schedule ahead before flying according to the time zone of where you will be flying to. This keeps you in check even at a different time zone reducing confusion when you arrive, you can plan ahead by booking your hotel earlier or even alerting the person who will pick you up from the airport about your arrival time to prevent being stranded.

Book a flight that fits well with your plans and schedule.

In order to ensure you do not mess up your plans, book a flight that fits well with your plans and time schedule. Flying over night is very popular if it is an eight to ten hour flight, if it is longer make sure you do your math right to ensure you book the right flight that will ensure you arrive your destination at the desired time. This too also helps you reduce confusion which can leave you stranded and frustrated.

Rest well before, during and after the flight.

During long flights you may be tempted to sleep longer or staying awake longer, this will confuse your schedule or sleeping patterns when you land. Resting well before the flight will help prevent fatigue which will likely increase chances of getting jet lagged, you should also sleep or stay awake on the plane periodically to ensure you get the right amount rest and not over doing it before you arrive.

Eat right before, during and after the flight.

Ensure you are well fed before you board the flight, however you should not over eat during the flight. Over eating during a flight can disrupt normal eating patterns when you land hence increasing the chances of getting jet lagged.

Keep your body hydrated before, during and after the flight.

Water is life, drinking enough water will ensure your body remains in good condition and hydrated. Staying in long flights without drinking water can leave you dehydrated, this can get worse with jet lag. You should also ensure you don't drink any alcohol on board the flight to prevent dehydration and disruption of normal sleeping patterns.

Don't sleep immediately you arrive unless it's night time.

Regardless of how tired you are after the long flight don't sleep during the day but wait for night time. Walk out in the sun to pass time or go grab a meal, sleeping before the sun goes down only further increases the jet lag and will leave you more confused when you wake up.

Very interesting post! I've actually tried a few things already, but I'll definitely add some of yours! I think the best option is to adjust your sleeping schedule a few days before you take off :)

So nice you get to travel a lot... I remember my worst jet lag experience was when I was heading to Melbourne, Australia. After I got down from the plane... I immediately head for the toilet and I threw up. Also I get motion sickness easily, what more a long flight. Hope you dont get it as bad. Safe travels!
