📌Papua New Guinea- "from the Stone Age to Parliament”

Today we are travelling to Papua New Guinea, the land of a wichcraft and cannibalisam. New Guinea is 2nd largest island in the world, located in the ocean between Australia and Asia, administratively divide on the West Guinea and Papua New Guinea. PNG borders on the west with Indonesia and with Australia on the east. It is one of the most ethnically and linguistically most heterogeneous countries in the world where hundreds of different tribes live, and more than 700 languages are spoken. Official language is english and language of agreement is tok pisin (pidgin english). Official currency is kina(1kina=100 toea). PNG has 5 502 000 infabitants(only 18% are the city's population). Port Moresby is the capital. History of that country is very young. Serious colonization began at the late 19th century. Before that people were living in the rainforest at the tribes.They didn't saw white man before, didn't know what is wheel or metal. Only 40 years later that country got independence entered the parliament and had to lead their country by democratic principles. In 1975 they get independence from Australia.
The population makes 700 tribes, 90% of them belong to the Papuaan group of peoples. Some of these tribes are related and speak a similar language, and some of them live in the mountains in complete isolation. The most populated is inner height where is over a 10% of the area lives more than one third of the total population.The main economic branch is agriculture, 2nd economic branch is mining.
PNG includes Bismarcko, Admirality, Trobriand, D'Entrecasteaux and Louisade Islands and the northern part of the Solomon Islands. The highest peak is Mount Wilhelm(4509m). The climate is equatorial in the lower areas is hot and humid and in the higher areas is freshness.


The biggest cities are:
Port Morsbey - also the capital. Port Morsbey is a tourist atraction. Along with the indigenous neighborhoods, the city is characterized by a modern architecture with European influences. City have many museums. Particularly attractive is the National Museum and Art Gallery, National garden orchid and Natural park Port Morsbey. City have 300 000 inhabitants.

Goroka - Goroka is the 2nd largest city and the capital of the Eastern Highlands Province. It is a town of approximately 19,000 people. It's most famous by Sing sing festival with the goal of promoting peace and diversity. Goroka is a very dangerous place for womens. 90% of them were accused of witchcraft, been tortured and killed.


Some of the interesting things in PNG:

  1. Bonsavi mountain - a vanished volcano that collapsed and created a 4 km wide and 1 km deep crater filled with dense jungle, spectacular waterfalls and a large number of endemic species. There are numerous weird animal spicies. Frogs with a big teeth, fishes who makes wird sounds. In 2009 scienties found 20 new species of insects and spiders, 16 species of frog, bat and at least three species of fish.

  1. The Korowai tribe - the Korowai tribe is a considered only living cannibals in the world.They built their houses on threes 20m(or more) high.They don't know what are germs and bacteria and for them dead man is work of Kakun(male wich), so they eat their people because of the Kakun.
