Würzburger Residenz

Here is my first post of the Residence of Würzburg residence and at the same time the start of a small picture series. The Residence of Würzburg is not only worth seeing, it is also one of the most important castles in Europe. Since 1981 the residence was added as the third building in Germany to the list of objects of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was planned by Balthasar Neumann and built in the years 1720 - 1744.

This great building was also involved in the massive destruction of the city Würzburg on 16 March 1945. The reconstruction after the Second World War lasted for almost 40 years.

Hier ist mein erster Post zur Würzburger Residenz und gleichzeitig der Start einer kleinen Bilderserie. Die Würzburger Residenz ist nich nur sehenswert, sondern auch eines der bedeutendsten Schlösser Europas. Seit 1981 wurde die Residenz als drittes Bauwerk in Deutschland in die Liste der Objekte des UNESCO Welterbe eingetragen. Geplant wurde sie von Balthasar Neumann und gebaut in den Jahren von 1720 – 1744.

Bei der Zerstörung der Stadt Würzburg am 16. März 1945 wurde auch die Residenz nicht verschont. Der Wiederaufbau nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg dauerte fast 40 Jahre.

Frankoniabrunnen

The Frankoniabrunnen (Frankonia fountain) in front of the residence was unveiled on 3 June 1894.

Der Frankoniabrunnen vor der Residenz wurde am 3. Juni 1894 enthüllt.

In the middle you see the outsized Frankonia looking towards the city center and holding the Franconian storm banner.

In Richtung Innenstadt blickend und die fränkische Sturmfahne haltend, steht überlebensgroß die Frankonia.

The three seated figures on the bottom are Walther von der Vogelweide, Tilman Riemenschneider and Matthias Grünewald.

Bei den drei sitzenden Figuren handlet es sich um Walther von der Vogelweide, Tilman Riemenschneider und Matthias Grünewald.

Hollywood Movie

In the year 2010 some scenes of the Hollywood Movie "The three musketeers" where filmed in front of and inside the residence.

Im Jahre 2010 wurden einige Szenen der Hollywood Produktion "Die Drei Musktiere" vor und in der Residenz gedreht.

DM Deutsche Mark

Balthasar Neumann, the architect of the residence and some other buildings in the region of Würzburg, was depicted on the 50 DM (Deutche Mark) note.

Balthasar Neumann, der Architekt der Residenz und vieler weiterer Gebäude im Raum Würzburg, war früher auf der 50 DM (Deutche Mark) Banknote abgebildet.
