The most exotic places in the world #10 - Lofoten, Norway

After visiting more than 50 countries, and 500 cities in the world I will give you my top 10 list of the most exotic destinations you can visit when you live on the road.

I will start with a destination I am familiar with, and even that I put it on 10th place - this pick could easily be number 1. Lofoten is an islandgroup in the northern part of Norway. If you travel to Oslo you need to take a flight 1500 km to Evenes Narvik/Harstad airport and then take a bus from there to Svolvær to get to the biggest city in this area. Alternative routes is with train to Bodø and a ferry further, or if you arrive in Bergen on the west coast of Norway you can take a cruise along the coast which is an amazing but pricey experience.

We all know that Norway is a pricey country to be in, but there are possibillities to experience this country on a budget if you are willing to backpack and sleep in tent to be in one with Nature. Lofoten is located 600 km above the polar circle which means that you will enjoy the midnight sun during the summer, and in winter the Auroa Borealis (northern light) will be dancing in front of your eyes quite frequently.

The scenery of the island group is steep mountains which dives into white sandy beaches, unfortenately the water temperatures is a bit cold - however, it is ok for a half an hour swim during the summerperiod. I advice anyone to visit Norway, and especially Lofoten at least once in life. The nature will leave you speechless, and the weatherphenomenens speaks for itself.

If you are looking for an exotic place to get in one with nature, Lofoten in northern part of Norway is a great choice. After a hard year of work this could be the best place for you to charge your batteries.
