Historical Berlin

in #travel9 years ago (edited)

Very close to the Reichstag are several symbolic and, perhaps, the main historical places of Berlin.
Come on!

Memorial to the fallen Soviet soldiers.
It was built in 1945 and is in excellent condition.

The main entrance from the street on June 17 is represented by two T-34 tanks.
During the offensive march to Berlin, they were the first in the city.

Wow, handsome!

Behind the tanks at the level of the first staircase are mounted two guns, which with their volleys proclaimed the end of the battle for Berlin.

By the way, the memorial was on the territory of the British sector of the occupation of Berlin, and until 1994 our guard was here.

During the fighting in the city, our army lost about 75 thousand soldiers.
Therefore, this memorial is not only a monument to the Great Victory in Germany, but also a military burial.

On the central pedestal is an 8-meter bronze figure of a Soviet soldier.

War is over. Rifle on the shoulder ...
The hand is stretched over the fallen combat comrades, resting at the foot of the monument

The Germans are great. They take care, restore.
Remember ...

In two stone sarcophagi are the remains of officers who died in Berlin between April 14 and May 1, 1945 and who were awarded the title of "Heroes of the Soviet Union".

On the memorial are visible emblems of various branches of the Red Army troops with the surnames of the dead.

In the back of the memorial, created in the form of a park, there are graves of more than 2,000 soldiers.

Very close to the Brandenburg Gate.
In fact, we are entering the territory of the old city. Earlier, Berlin was surrounded by a fortress wall, and this gate, one of 14 pieces, was on its outskirts ...
At the time of the Wall, the gates were in the territory of East Berlin.

Perestroika, which began in the USSR, played a huge role in the destruction of the Berlin Wall.
December 22, 1989 on the eve of Christmas, were solemnly opened to the passage of the Brandenburg Gate.
The first who passed them was the Federal Chancellor of Germany Helmut Kohl, one of the main initiators of the new unification of Germany.

Inside the gate is much larger than it seems from afar .. It is understandable - the height is 26 meters, and the width of the walls is 11.

In Pariserplatz (Paris), the embassies of the winning countries are USA, around the corner are the United Kingdom,

France

And a terrible dream of the Nazis, who tried to make the Brandenburg Gate their symbol.

The gates were built in the late 18th century on the model of Greek architecture, were painted in a brightly white color and were called the "Gate of Peace".
Often restored. Time and wars do not spare the story.
One more great work is expected, because When laying underground lines, the walls were cracked.

The famous Quadriga.
The six-meter chariot, with the horse-driving Goddess of the World, was taken away by Napoleon to Paris when he occupied Berlin.
After the fall of the French emperor, she returned back.
In her hands appeared the Prussian iron cross crowned with an eagle, and she became the Goddess of Victory - Victoria.

So, the quadriga that you can see today is just a copy.

Headed south. Do you see how close the Reichstag is?
I'm saying that everything is there)) From the wall there was a light strip of paving stone on the asphalt.

We go around the American ambassador. Pay attention to the green bear - the symbol of Berlin, dressed up in a statue of freedom.
Americans plus. They can smile over themselves.

But if you look back, it's not a funny picture before your eyes.

Gloomy, gray, cold 2 700 plates of different heights ..

This is the Memorial of the Murdered Jews of Europe - the victims of Nazism.
It was opened in 2005 on the field between the Brandenburg Gate and the remnants of the bunker of the leadership of Nazi Germany.

Walk between these plates is unpleasant. A man immediately lose each other in this stone labyrinth of walls ...

I do not want to develop any polemics about this or that nation. People and families in the end very sorry.

But the Slavs were destroyed no less severely, and on a larger scale.
And will the world of the years remember it in 20-30 years ...

Such a sad and hard post turned out.
This is history, friends. Do not forget!
