Behana Gorge - One of the Many Treasures of Far North Queensland, Australia
Hola friends!
I just wanted to share some photos with you all from my day trip to Behana Gorge. I am incredibly fortunate to live in Far North Queensland which is the most tropical part of Australia. My city is in close proximity to fresh water creeks and waterfalls, lush dense rainforests, and open sea which includes the big ole Great Barrier Reef. Every time I leave my hometown to visit other places in the world I come back with such a new found appreciation and understanding as to why so many people from all over the world visit this place I call home.
Behana Gorge is about 20 minutes south of town. It involves a moderate 3.1km hike on paved concrete from beginning to falls. Generally around this time of year rain is expected as our wet season consists of the months between December and March. However we haven't been lucky enough to receive an adequate downpour for a few years. Fortunately Behana Gorge is an area that has constant running water so it makes for a great swimming spot in the summer time and let me tell you the weather right now is hot and humid!
The main swimming hole is located at the end of the track however the creek runs alongside the path and all the way out and beyond the highway.
Being amongst the rainforest there is always a diverse amount of wildlife. My cousin and I were luckily enough to befriend this blue little butterfly and saw many more along the path.
As we begun to reach our destination the falls presented themselves in all their glory!
Although the water is at a low point there are still spots amongst the creek that offer water canyoning.
There is nothing I enjoy more than getting my feet wet on a warm summers day in my own little slice of backyard paradise!

Such a beautiful place this is.
A lot of similarity to my country Malaysia where people here just LOVE to go to waterfalls due to the weather here, and we have lots of it.
