Hoan Kiem Lake

The Hoan Kiem Lake is known as the Lake of the Restored Sword and it is one of the spots to visit in Vietnam. It is a well known historic point in Hanoi and local people have a legend on how it came to be called Sword Lake.

It was in the fifteenth century and after that Emperor Le Loi was on the lake with a pontoon and the Golden Turtle God uncovered himself to the Emperor and requested his sword back. The sword was lent to the Emperor before as an approach to vanquish his adversaries and when he did that, the sword was recovered by the God who credited it to him.
