Three days on Manali-Leh Highway

in #travel5 years ago

I don’t know how to write this amazing travel story as I am not the actual traveler or writer. Nevertheless, I would like to draw your attention towards this nice traveling story written by traveler or author. The story tells you how traveler spent three days on Manali-Leh Highway.

Day 1 trip, it was 13th August. Traveler was aboard the last bus to Manali. It needs 14hr ride from Delhi  to reach Manali by bus. But in the month of August, the risk of landslides increases in this area which generally influences transport system. As usual, the bus was stopped due to a major landslide happened 8Kms from Mandi. Traveler left the bus at Mandi and started moving towards his destination which was still 108 Km away from there.

Few more people started walking from there because it was very difficult to say when the road would be cleared off. When traveler was going through the jungle, he saw hundreds of vehicles were waiting on the road due to landslides. They covered almost 10 Km. distance from Mandi.

Finally, they arrived in their destination Manali after a lot of efforts. You know Manali is popular for local fruit wines and trout fish. Trout fish are available in the local rivers. These are prepared as a whole. They don’t need to cut it into pieces. The cost of wine is very cheap in Manali as it is hugely found in the local rivers.  All the travelers stayed whole night in Manali.

Day 2 trip, the next morning, they had to go towards Leh. But unfortunately it was raining. However they took a 350cc Royal Enfield and a 160cc Yamaha FZ on rental basis for further excursion for which they paid INR 1500 per day rent for 5 days. The cost was very high because of holiday season. During this period, the number of travelers generally increases in the area which enhances the demand of bikes. Thus it increases the rental cost of bike. After they got bikes, they turned their direction towards  their first destination, Rohtang Pass.

On the way to Rohtang Pass, they saw several streams and high altitude mountains. These are actual beauty that attracts your attention. It was around 4PM when they arrived in Rohtang pass. They had thought that the area would have been covered by snow, but found no snow.

Although there was enough time for sunset, they set up their camp near Gramphu, a noisy river, instead of getting to hotel. They celebrated whole night with wines under a beautiful night sky.

Day 3 trip, it was 3rd day of trip and they decided to go for Keylong pass, and then the next destination would be the Leh highway. They had to go for a 50km high ride to reach Keylong and then the way to Leh which was ascension. While going through the way to Leh, they met several sharp turning points including wonderful views which were awesome experience for them. They continued their ride and met with Patsio (Alt. 12300 Ft.) and Suraj Taal (Alt. 15000ft.). After 20-25 km. ride, one of their bikes was unable to continue further ride owing to high altitude and also the weather was getting very cold and windy. They finally decided to set up camp there but due to lack of wood, they went downhill where they got tents and food provided by local people. They charged very low price for their hospitality service. There was a “Zing-Zing Bar” where they spent their whole night. And in the next morning they returned back to Manali and then back to Delhi.
