Swimming With The Whalesharks - Oslob, Cebu
Hello Dear Steemians!
One of the highlights of my travel in my home country was to swim with the Whalesharks! That all came true when I visited my family, relatives and friends in Cebu City. My cousin Rick lives in the Lahug District with his family and with them I went to Oslob to see the whalesharks. The car ride had been three hours that started at 3:00 AM. When we reached our destination, the tourists were there before us at around 6:00 AM and already falling in line for their slots.
The Butanding , that´s how the whalesharks are called, are harmless big fishes that loves shrimps as their food. They come to Oslob during the feeding time which is between 6:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The feeding time is well organized and there were many marine biologists standing-by to oversee the whole feeding process.
Tourists and those who want to swim were given instructions on what to do when observing the whales under water. Each of us whale watcher was given a snorkel and life vest, we removed ours since it was difficult to swim underwater. As a rule, it is prohibited to touch the big fish and cameras with flash are not allowed. Once caught, the person gets a huge penalty and will be imprisoned.
You can rent a Go Pro camera and one of the guys on the boat will take the shots for your group. He also gave us signal when the whalesharks are already nearing us and then with a 1-2-3 command he asked each of us to dip under water, we then dove below so he can get fotos of us having the whales on the background... the process took about 30 minutes...
It was one hell of a great and fascinating adventure to see those lovelies in reality and I love it! I will surely come back to Oslob.... but first, I have to learn scuba diving like the guy in the below image so I can watch them for a longer time.

It´s not that bad..... I have enjoyed it although the whale watch was just too short for 30 minutes..But It was worth it. You´ve got to try it, it was so much fun!
