Love's Epic Journey Through Latin America: Getting Started With JUR EN TAK Sustainable Community, Monterrey, Mexico

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

The inspirations and passions are continuously unfolding in
Monterrey, Mexico at the grassroots

Jur enTak

Sustainable Community.

These guys,
Ezequiel and Ovat,
are young with relatively little experience with
community life and sustainable living.

But that doesn't stop them.
They have lots of

ideas, inspiration, passion and
a "can do" attitude.

They started about a year ago with great focus for
organizing a sustainable community and getting
their permaculture certification.

I returned to Mexico to work with them September 25th.
Since then I have seen many
great projects they already have in process.

Over the last couple weeks many new projects have begun.
In addition, the guys are beginning to achieve a clarified focus and vision.

The Jur en Tak slogan,
which is brightly displayed on their
Facebook page,

Permacultura.Sostenibilidad.Viajes.
Comida.Traducciones.Diversión

The project is foremost about making a change within the self then
bringing the self-sufficient way of life to the people,
setting the example and setting the standard.

"Permacultura,
(Permaculture)

The Permaculture Research Insitute
says that
"Permaculture integrates land, resources, people
and the environment through
mutually beneficial synergies..."

Therefore, if you don't want your old bags, boxes, newspapers, jars, rugs, buckets, etc. someone else will want them.If you have a whole orchard of peaches ripe on the same day your neighbors will come harvest then take home a bushel or two in trade.

(The Permaculture Research Institute)

The ways to implement permaculture and sustainability
are infinite and can be applied anywhere.

Sostenibilidad,
(Sustainability)

The United Nations list 17 goals of global sustainability in their sustainability Development Program but more specifically, "in three broad development contexts: eradicating poverty; structural transformations; and building resilience."

The International Institute of Sustainable Development IISD

tells us that "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

With that in mind

Below we see numerous examples of reuse and recycle.
How many can you count?

Above is the production of a chicken coop and space for a tilapia pond, humanure compost, kitchen and garden waste compost, garden workshop with storage and a vegetable garden using recycled tires.

Lots of seeds and cuttings have been started and
there are many more in the plan.

Right now, the biggest challenge is getting enough
soil for starting all the garden beds.

Almost daily Ezequiel and I take a walk through
the neighborhood collecting materials.
We pick up bricks,
piles of brush and lawn clippings,
large plastic containers,
papers,
piles of palm branches,
wild plant clippings,
fallen fruits and roll back old abandoned automobile tires.
The neighborhood is cleaner and we are putting trash to good use.

It always feels good when we return with loads of garbage
that Jur en Tak will turn into gold.

Viajes,
(Traveling)

When I met Ovat and Ezekiel last year I had barely begun my travels through Latin America

We had an instant connection.

Check out my blog The Mexican Magical City Tour: Real de Catorce y el éxodo dos
to learn about how we met and our travels together.

Projects in the plan include more traveling for spreading
the knowledge and experience of community life and sustainable living.

Comida,
(Food)

Food is a big thing around here.

Similar to being home in the sustainable Garden of Eden @gardenofeden, life at Jur en Tak is all about the food. These guys and I, we all love the many aspects of food production, from the compost to the table. At home I was involved in all the processes of food management therefore the guys and I are working together on all aspects of production.

Among the many projects the guys have started since my arrival is
receiving free palettes,
starting seeds for vegetables,
starting the tire garden beds,
expanding their food line and organic hygiene products line.

For now,
They really love the baking and cooking.

They already had their Kombucha production started when I arrived.
What I tasted when they showed off their successes was super tasty.

Great JoB GuYs!

They designed and created their own fluoride free toothpaste line.

The people of Monterrey want this toothpaste. Everyday people come to the community to buy the toothpaste, then they pick up some of Ezequiel's amazing black bean burgers and loaf of my homemade bread.

Ovat's beautiful
Almond Milk

Ezequiel's Beautiful Burger on
Love's homemade bun and Carmelized Onions.

Tradiciones,
(Traditions)

Many indigenous cultures are rooted in Mexico but
have lost their cultures to the predominating
Bank of the Republic monetary system.

Moving from a naturally sustainable existence to
one that is based on the unsustainable practice of

acquiring money has manifested very diluted cultures.

As a result,

JUR EN TAK Community

...is bringing the free life, the sustainable life back to the people.

Just by spending each day, doing more and more, little by little, JurenTak is taking control of their world on a personal and a global level.

They are taking part in the world wide revolution to bring back
the traditional sustainable ways,
the tried and true methods of the ancients.

It is, however, in our reality, impossible to return to the past but
to create a new and harmonious future.
Using traditional sustainable practices and a balance of elements from
contemporary lifestyle such as internet and electricity we
envision a progressive, free and organic existence.

For this reason we are utilizing online services such as
this blog, crowdfunding and eBay.com

Specifically with eBay we are growing a cottage industry
of selling the indigenous textiles.
I am setting this up for them then they will take it
over at the end of the year when I leave.

Specifically, you can purchase the very fashionable
Mexican Hoodie of any color,
the popular falsa blankets, falsa bags
and classic Mexican dresses through our eBay listings.

After this gets rolling there's plans to
expand to higher end items of
linen and pure wool.

All purchases go toward the evolution of
the community and the planet.
