There must be good soil and cooler conditions up there or something. I've got a shorter growing season here too (Pacific Northwest US) but don't get nearly as good results with vegetables. I think that perhaps my soil needs more organic items and could be a bit acidic. Berries do really good here but not the items you showed in the post.
