Parisian Gourmet - Day 10

There is a traditional French dish called "steak tartar". This is not a steak in tartar sauce, but rather a selected piece of raw minced meat, with a raw egg broken on top of it, yolk and all. This is definitely not the dish I'll be talking about today, because I haven't managed to get myself to eat one of those, despite some glorious reviews.

However, I am going to talk about tartar. Every time you see the word "tartar" in a French menu, the odds are that we're talking about raw... something. And this is where this dish comes in.

This salmon tartar (which is basically a French salmon sashimi) came into my life at a restaurant called Chez Françoise, in a very nice and central part of Paris, during a romantic date night with no other than my wonderful husband. The surrounding sauce is not wasabi-based, as sushi lovers may thing, but rather mashed peas that actually tasted better than they seemed. All in all, a good dish in a good restaurant.
