Trip To The Củ Chi Tunnels

Probably the most popular attraction for someone to visit during there stay in Ho Chi Minh is the Củ Chi tunnels located just outside of the city. We booked a tour the previous day from one of the many tour booking businesses located along the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh. The tour cost us $10 instead of $8 as it was a weekend. We chose to do the morning tour so made our way over to the booking office at 8am on the day of the tour and waited for everyone else to show up. It does seem to be very common in Asia that tours never start on time you get used to it after a few month on the road. Once we finally got moving we got introduced to our guide for the day called ''Jimmy'' which everyone found to be a brilliant name for a little Vietnamese guy. He gave us all the information related to the tunnels that we needed and his father happened to be living in one of the villages by the tunnels during the war. The only trouble we found was that he was sometimes hard to understand due to his accent which was a tiny bit annoying.

Another annoyance we both found was that the area that the tunnels were in was so busy with far too many tourists it was beginning to ruin the experience as we had to be rushed in so that we didn't get in the way of other tour groups. I really feels that whoever runs the site should maybe even charge more to enter but limit the number of people allowed at any one time to counter this growing issue.

The highlight of the tour though has definitely go to be exploring through a replica of what the tunnels would have been like during the day. The tunnel that has been constructed for tourists is 100 meters long and even though its much wider that the ones that were actually used is still a narrow squeeze for any westerner. I did record going through the tunnels with my GoPro but as it was so dark inside I'm not really sure that the footage is useable ..... i'll see what I an do and maybe you'll see it on dtube soon !

There was one part of the experience that we did not do and that was the gun range located on the site. We both decided it wasn't really worth it as you only got ten shots for around the 10 dollar mark depending on the gun used. I thought i'd save this experience for another country most likely when I travel around the United States in the coming years.

Overall i'd give the trip to the Củ Chi tunnels a 7.5 out of 10 it was just to touristy not sure if its always been like this ? Please let me know down below :)
