ANGOSTURA BRIDGE!.. CIUDAD BOLIVAR, VENEZUELA

in #travel6 years ago

The Angostura Bridge, on the Orinoco River in the Guayana Region, was inaugurated by President Raúl Leoni on January 6, 1967. At that time, it was the ninth bridge in the world and the largest in South America. It is located 5 km. approximately from Ciudad Bolívar, crossing the Orinoco River, in its narrowest zone and connecting the Anzoátegui and Bolívar states.

It is constituted by a metal frame of 1,678 meters long and 14.6 meters wide. Its impressive towers are each 119 meters high and are those that support the laying of cables. It was designed by engineer Paul Lustgarten, born in Ciudad Bolivar, and built by the companies American Bridge and Precompressed C.A. (the same company that built the Rafael Urdaneta Bridge, in Maracaibo)
