A Well Loved Igloo About 180 Miles From Anywhere
For the last 40 years, this abandoned and would be motel has sat 180 miles north of the city of Anchorage. The drive from Anchorage on the George Parks Highway will eventually take you to Fairbanks, the largest interior city in Alaska. As you near Cantwell, this interesting but rather neglected building takes shape. Together with a gas station and rental cabins, this was one man's dream of a motel that just never made it. So time marches on and this Alaskan icon sits and waits for someone to finish the dream.

Interesting and beautiful building! I do really hope that someone can finish the dream in near future! :)
I would like to see it finished one day soon. Idea is really innovative.
The man who had the dream has passed. The second one has done some work but could not afford to finish. Now it is for sale again. It is a busy highway and would be a blessing to have accomidations there. The gas station was open until sometime after 2000 when it closed due to high gas prices. The cabins closed at the same time.
I feel sorry for what happened.
It's very sad to hear about that story!..... I think this would attract many tourists to come and experience the wonderful stay there over night, if someone buy the building and promote it as a hotel! In my personal opinion, this can probably be a great and famous hotel in a future due to very creative idea! :)
Yes, it could be quite nice.
:D
