But the story behind the bridge is that it was finished in 1921 by local Sri Lankans with consultation with British constructors, but apparently initially the original material supposed to be used for the bridge was metal but the construction started right when the WW I started so the material was used for military operation etc. so to continue the construction rocks, concrete etc. was used.
