Extreme Romance in Morocco. Exploring Fes and Meknes.

in #travel6 years ago

Good afternoon! Let us take you to Fes and Meknes this time.

Just want you to know that in Morocco we were for 2 weeks from the 23rd of December until January 8th. It was our first trip together as a couple. :)

If you want to ask how did we manage to end up in Africa? Well, we saw the post on Facebook that one organization is looking for adventure seekers to go to Morocco for a New Year! We thought what a good opportunity it is and also with such a trip we wanted to know how strong our relationship is:)))

Had no doubts that it is really strong, we are in tandem for sure! After that, we made a really sudden decision, but as you know the most amazing things come spontaneously.

So it was a little bit of introduction, now let's get into a story.

Meknes is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco. For us, this city seemed really historical like the ones are shown in the movies.

When we got out of the bus we had about 2 hours to explore this city. So we didn't waste our time, grabbed a camera and let ourselves in the rush of Meknes.

Firstly, we got to some kind of a marketplace, it was really extensive with all kinds of products and things you need.

While in Latvia it was about -20 degrees of frost, we had a sunny weather with about +20 degrees during the day. Although the market was really noisy and full of people, we just couldn't stay there any longer.

Then we were just walking around the Meknes and its narrow streets then we moved to Fes.

Fez is famous for its leather products and most of it comes from the leather bazaar (souq). The souq is home to three ancient leather tanneries, the largest and oldest being the Chouara Tannery, which is almost a thousand years old.

Before visiting the leather tannery, the guide showed us the leather shop, there were various kinds of high-quality leather bags, wallets, shoes, belts and much more.

Wandering around narrow streets we stumbled upon amazing handmade chandelier shop. The atmosphere was so magical, we just wanted to by all of the chandeliers.

Fez’s tanneries are composed of numerous stone vessels filled with a vast range of dyes and various liquids spread out like a tray of watercolors. Dozens of men, many standing waist deep in dyes, work under the hot sun tending to the hides that remain soaked in the vessels.

The tanneries process the hides of cows, sheep, goats and camels, turning them into high quality leather products such as bags, coats, shoes, and slippers.

This is all achieved manually, without the need for modern machinery.

In the next post you will see a Cedar Woods with dozens of friendly monkeys :) You don't want to miss it!

Have a wonderful day,

Cool post! Love the markets as you know. You guys skip over to Morocco now from Japan? Or is this from a back log? Not like it matters. Just curious how and where you are. Hope you guys are well, and I'm sure you both are! Have a great day!-Dan

Hey, Dan! It's nice to hear from you :)
Yeah, Morocco is in the past already, visited it last December. Now we are in London just making plans and stuff like that for around the world journey and till now, everything is going very good. Can't wait to leave :)))
Cheers!

That is so nice. I've met many people from London. Including my good friend George that I'm currently traveling Thailand with. Enjoy your time in London and I'm looking forward to learning about your next set of ventures. I'll be exploring South America again in a month and a half after a one week family pit-stop in Florida. This time in South America it will be an exploration/documentation with steemit in mind. Cheers!

Looking forward to explore South America with you. Which countries you plan to visit ?

Ecuador, and the travel south/ southeast. I always play it by ear, but I'm shooting for Peru, Chili, Bolivia, Paraguay, Prgentina, Uraguay, and the southern tip of Brazil. Have you guys done South America?

Ohh man, we feel so jealous! We have never been to South America, but we truly hope that we will be able to save enough money to get there too. But honestly, most like we will get there, since it's a dream of hours to travel the whole world and if you want something really hard, you can always find a way to make it happen.

love Morocco, went once by myself to Fes, Casablanca and Marrakesh, was really impressed.
Love the work you put in this post, great picture and good story.

Thank you! It's totally worth a visit. There's plenty to explore, prices a really friendly and if you like a good hike, then we advise you to go to Toubkal national park and climb Mt.Toubkal. We will do a post about it in few days.
