Dia menghela nafas kuat-kuat sehingga asap tembakau menjadi jarang-jarang.

Bakri kemudian mengenang masa-masa remajanya.

KN 430 before renovation

Caring for Memory

Some freelancers are renovating the KN 430 Malahayati Ship in the Punge Blang Cut Village in Banda Aceh. This ship made of iron was stranded in a residential area as a result of the tsunami, last December 26, 2004. The vessel that was once used for the Republic of Indonesia's Customs Customs patrol is not alone.

In the same location, there is also a larger KPLP that also anchors there. The difference is, KPLP is made of fiber and still gets less attention. Even though their fate was the same, both of them were struck by a tsunami a dozen years ago.

"This ship is very old," said Bakri, one of the freelancers who participated in renovating the ship. Bakri used to live in Punge Blang Cut. The house is right on the right side of KN 430 Malahayati. After marriage, Bakri settled in Lam Ujong, Ulee Kareng.

The area where this ship docked now becomes a playground for children around

During the break, Bakri lit a Dji Sam Soe Premium cigarette. He sighed so hard that tobacco smoke became rare.

"I used to fish on this boat. I used my free time after middle school to go fishing. This ship is very old. In 1985, this ship was parked at the port of Ulee Lheue," Bakri said again.

Ulee Lheue, about 6-5 kilometers from the location of the KN 430 Malahayati ship, is now anchored. The ship's location is also only a few tens of meters from the Floating Ship Punge Blang Cut, which also crashed into the 2004 tsunami.

Bakri then remembers his teenage years. He claimed that he often traveled to Ulee Lheue using a bicycle just to fish in the harbor. "On this ship, I often throw hooks. Often my fishing rod strikes, sometimes it can get little fish," Bakri said. "I did not expect, now this ship is in front of the house," Bakri said again.

Bakri then moved from his shelter. He again painted the old iron ship. While others make iron stairs to make it easier for tourists to board the ship.

"It has been 14 years since the ship has docked here, only now has the iron stairs of boat been made," Bakri said with a smile.[]

I forgot to write down the details of the existence of the village of Punge Blang Cut. Punge Blang Cut is a village under the administration of Jaya Baru District, Banda Aceh city, Aceh province. When the tsunami occurred on December 26, 2004, many people in this village died. Among the residents here were also declared missing to date, including my mother. Not a few have suffered injuries due to the disaster. In addition, thousands of people were also displaced because after the tsunami, nearly 90% of the buildings in the region were leveled.

Saya lupa menuliskan detil keberadaan desa Punge Blang Cut.
