Tokyo Guide #0: Kappabashi Kitchen Town

In addition to Kyoto, I start writing about places I like in Tokyo, where I grew up and worked for few years after university study.

第二の故郷の京都について書きはじめて、せっかくなので生まれ育って少し働いていた時期もある東京についても好きな場所を紹介していきたいと思います。

One of the places I visit always when I’m back in Tokyo is Kappabashi Dogu Street, which I call "kitchen town" so that people can easily understand what it is.

東京に戻る度に必ず訪れる場所のひとつに料理好きの聖地（？）合羽橋道具街があります。

More than 170 shops are there on both side of a street for 500-600m. You can find almost everything related to cooking from home use tools to professional cooking facilities. It's must visit for cooking fans.

大通りをはさんで両側に170以上のお店が500-600mに渡って軒を連ねています。料理に関するありとあらゆるものが家庭用からプロ用まで何でも手に入ります。料理道具はもちろん、ユニフォーム屋さんやロウでできた食品見本のお店まで。

I like to see big selection of Japanese dishes. I buy some as my souvenir.

個人的には和食器のお店が好きで毎度長々あれがいいなこれがいいなと見ては少しずつお土産に買っています。

The variety of baking tools both for cake and bread is great too. I can spend a day easily here.

製パン・製菓用品のお店の品揃えもものすごくて、これまた見出すときりがありません。1日いられます。

As I’ve never seen somewhere like Kappabashi in the world, it can be interesting for non-cooking fans.

台所用品店街なのですが、今までいろいろと旅をして合羽橋のような場所は見たことがなく、料理好きでなくても楽しめると思います。

Asakusa, which is famous for Sensoji temple is in the walking distance from Kappabashi kitchen town. Sight seeing in Asakusa and Kappabashi visit can be combined. Shops in Kappabashi is start closing 5pm.

浅草寺で有名な浅草も合羽橋から歩いていける距離なので合羽橋と浅草観光を組み合わせても。

If you think about visiting Kappabashi, I recommend you to avoid Sunday as some stores are not open. Stores start closing around 5pm. Weekday daytime is the best timing to visit :)

合羽橋のお店の中には日曜日に開いていないお店もあり、閉店時間もはやめなので、平日の日中に見に行くと思う存分楽しめるのでおすすめです。
