The origin of names of cities in Turkey - # 4 Hakkari

in #tr7 years ago

Hakkari is a city in the south east of Turkey. The city is located a few kilometres away from the Turkish - Iraqi border in a very mountainous region. The Armenian name of the city is Ilmar; the Mamluks, who reigned over the city called it Colamerg, which is still the name Kurds use for it. Formerly the Turkish name was Çölemerik. The Suryanis Gülarmak.

It is said, that he name Hakkari is derived from the Syriac-Aramaic word Akkare, which means farmers.

Another saying about the origin of the name Hakkari is, when the Ottomans conquered this region there where so-called “Hakkariye Beyleri” (Hakkariye princes). Yavuz Sultan Selim Han, the leader of the Ottoman empire allowed this princes to rule over this region in the name of the Ottoman empire. Within 127 years 77 princes ruled over this region in the name of the Ottoman Sultan. So the name Hakkari derived from Hakkariye prince.

Akkare sounds like Acker and it has the same meaning. I follow a woman from Irak on twitter and I have learned from her some very interesting similarities between the german and arabic language. For example I did not know that Alkohol has arabic origin and also the deeper meaning of the words is very interesting, al cohl? I am not sure I think cohl is spelled wrong but Alkohol comes from two words (you probably know this ;)) The original meaning of the words actually describe the nature of it. The nature of Alkohol and its Wirkung. Deciphering the meaning of the words can open up a whole world... If you can refreshen my memory on this particular case that just happened to come up regarding the word alcohol, I would be delighted!

That's great view and an image very accurate I love it, I'll be waiting for posting the next.

Thank you for commenting! Next post comes soon, so God will!

Stunning place!Surrounded by such powerful and beautiful mountains, amazing!

Yeah, it is. But unfortunately in 2016 there where big fightings between the Turkish Army and PKK, so now parts of the city looks like a ghost-city.

When these fightings stop?!So sad...

It's a shame and a pity...
