On June 15, 1215, the English nobles coerced King John to sign the Magna Carta of Liberty, a document written in Latin and containing 63 articles.
　　Most of the articles safeguarded the rights of the nobles and clergy, mainly: the freedom to elect church clergy; the protection of the right of nobles and riders to inherit territories, and the king could not collect the inheritance rent of territories in violation of the law; the king could not give grants and shield money to his immediate vassals without the consent of the "Great Council of the Realm"; the right of the king to interfere with the justice of the feudal lord's court was abolished; the king could not arbitrarily arrest or imprison free men or confiscate their property without the judgment of their peers.
　　In addition, a few articles confirmed the rights already enjoyed by cities, protected the freedom of commerce, and standardized weights and measures. If the king violated the charter, a committee of 25 nobles had the right to use force against the national sky.
　　Later, during the British bourgeois revolution, the Magna Carta was used as a legal basis for fighting for rights and became one of the constitutional documents establishing the constitutional monarchy in England.
