TIL Interesting facts about Germany.

Today I had a free morning and I started looking a little on the internet about the country where I live, Germany. In these days when I wonder if I want to continue living here or not, Germany has become the center of my thoughts, in a certain way.

Some of the information I found left me speechless.

Did you know that in Germany escape from prison is not punished by law?

Well, the German law dictates that it is a basic human instinct to want to be free so the prisoner has the right to try to escape. Of course, if you produce any damage to the property or some person you will not get rid of the punishment.

In Germany it is illegal to run out of gas on the Autobahn (Highway).

You can stop but only for emergencies and running out of gas is not one. You can receive fines and even lose the license for 6 months.

More than 800 million Currywurst are eaten in Germany every year.

The Currywurst was created in Berlin where more than 7 million are eaten. Also in Berlin there is a museum dedicated to this fast food.

The German language has the most native speakers in Europe.

Especially since Germany has the largest population in the EU.

The city of Berlin has more bridges than Venice.

Yes, although some do not believe it Berlin has 960 bridges in total and in Venice there are only more than 400. Amazing!

Germany has more cultural activities and cultural places than any other country in the world.

In Germany there were 6200 museums, 820 theaters, 130 orchestra professionals and 8800 libraries just in 2013. I guess there must be more now.
