Managing The Mind When Its Filled With Uncertainty

in #thoughts6 years ago

Do you ever get that weird feeling of uncertainty?

You check your phone over and over again, head to a few websites you occasionally frequent, then move back to your phone, etc.

Although, you don't quite know what you are looking for.

Heck, maybe you aren't looking for anything.

It could be killing time, a cluttered mind trying to find something to hold onto or just a random occurrence of events based on your location and situation.

That's kind of how I feel today, so I wanted to write this to get my thoughts.

What Is Uncertainty?

I don't know.

Yes, that is ironic I understand.

But uncertainty something rooted in us, yet it seems to be incomprehensible actually to define and put into words.

Its the feeling of not knowing what you want, when you want it, and not knowing why or if you want something.

Yes, that sounds completely weird, but it is true.

There is a bit of an inclination that something is unsettling, yet it doesn't want to make itself evident.

The emotional guidance system is a bit off, and it leaves you with remnants of a feeling, one which you really can't describe.

Now, this is something that none of us like.

Most people enjoy the precise knowledge of what they want to do, what they will do and how they will do it.

But we all have to struggle with uncertainty to know what we truly want.

It is a period of questioning in the best way possible because it helps show you whats in front of you, what you have and don't have and what needs to come next.

This is uncertainty, and it can be powerful.

How To Use Uncertainty To Your Advantage

While this can seem counterintuitive, when you are uncertain thinking is the most important thing you can do.

The state of uncertainty may block a precise thought or feeling, but it something to be trifled with.

Quite literally you can train your brain to become more certain of who you are.

It helps you find what you want, what you want to be, who you think you are, the contemplations of this life that we all have.

Think of it as your minds way of asking you to step back and figure out what you want.

A mid-life crisis seems to be an extreme form of uncertainty.

Something that causes people to radically question who they are, what they have accomplished, what they will accomplish and what comes next.

Now, its typically looked at in a negative light.

Although what I am saying is that you can use it to your advantage allowing you to access a conscious flow of thoughts that can help shape who you are in front of your self.

That is powerful.

And it is why I wrote this article today.

Thanks for reading, I figured out what I needed to, and I hope you did too.

Austin I have felt this type of uncertainty before in my life. It's not like not knowing what to wear that day or what I feel like for dinner. It's like an uncertainty that I've strayed from my comfortable life path and I am off in the wilderness tripping over vines and getting poked with branches. Generally, this always ends with a life-changing event and then I am off on another path. A better path. Change is never easy.

@heightenedliving - Thanks for an excellent topic. It got me reflecting on the subject.

Sometimes it is our adversity to taking risks, we usually know what we want but the price feels like it is too high. We then kick into survival mode revert to habitual actions instead taking a leap of faith. This in my mind can also be a type of uncertainty that can trap us for a long time. It also causes us a great deal of uneasiness and a sense of disillusionment at times.

To comment on the figidity behaviour you describe, often this leads us to seek and find a solution which make the price we pay OR our approach more acceptable. In reality it is the same price we pay split as - acceptable cost + time expended (to find accepted price).

Just my thoughts on the subject.
