Sepia Saturday: A RIVETING Update On My Funky Apple ~ Another Day In The Exciting Life Of D.D. Schteinn ~ Original Photography and Original Discussion About A Lumpy (Theoretical) Fruit~

Last we checked, our little Golden Delicious apple was hanging about on the short tree from whence it came, just doing it's everyday, apple thing. [Apple Post]. And though still present, our little fruit was looking more than a bit down in the apple mouth. The baggy skin resembled the pock-marked surface of the moon, rather than a crisp apple in the heady, twilight years of it's short, sweet life. Ah, the harsh ravages of that ever-marching father called time.

Jump ahead, to a few weeks ago. Our deep SnOwregon white had long since evaporated into the everyday water cycle, and this little fruit was no doubt looking forward to a nice, warm summer full of fruity hopes and dreams. Yes, a bit baggy in the shorts, but hopeful, none the less.

Alas, life does not always go as planned.

STILL Hanging On

Saturday - April 20, 2019
Though still on the tree, complete with a few new, leafy friends to discuss life with, the apple was looking even more sad and dejected than last report. Not even the local birds seemed interested in pecking away at it's juicy(?) innards. Oh, to be forgotten and cast aside, as your days wane long and dark toward that ignoble, yet UN-avoidable end.

Jump Ahead To The Now

Wandering by the little tree yesterday, I stopped in to check on our small, aging fruit. Ah, a sad day indeed. My lumpy little apple was nowhere in sight. I searched high and low, (mostly low) for our rotund friend, but there was no sign of it anywhere. In the tree, in the growing pot below, in the grass, on the ground.

There wasn't a misshapen piece of rotting fruit to be found. Nothing below but very deep and tall grass surrounding the tree in all directions. I cannot be certain, but am convinced our friend the apple finally let go of the tree, landed with a mushy ker-plop onto the soil below, and was rapidly taken up into the green grass of the future. Our apple gave it's life for the betterment of the continuous cycle of existence.

In Fruity Conclusion

Feeling A Bit Faklempt

With a small lump in my throat, I turned my camera back up into the branches of the little tree, to see what else might be going on in the now leafy-green above. And wouldn't you know it...at that very moment...a jet full of people flew by, headed somewhere or another, in whatever direction across the photo that might be. It appears to be the east, from where I stand.

A whole planeload of folks, jetting off in a grand hurry to Toledo, or some other exotic destination. Which got me to thinking about my disappearing apple, and some other, interesting aspects of life.

The plane kept on going over the taller trees, soon disappearing into the far horizon. Carrying all those people aloft to some unknown appointment of importance. Vacation, work, family, a new child, a recent graduation, a very sad funeral. The list of possibilities goes on and on. Much like life itself. If one is lucky. We're all following that same line of passing time, ticking away into the far horizon. Be we of animal, plant, human or fruity composition.

The white contrail pushing across the sky felt like a fitting metaphor for this existence. And even more so for our small, missing apple. Time, and life itself, just keeps on passing by. Whether we want it to or not. At varying speeds, but constantly, relentlessly, moving in a forward direction. And we're all here, along for the ride. Small fruit, large human, it makes no difference. EVERYTHING moves along the same track--to that eventual horizon of life.

I Be What I Be

The apple is destined for one of many possibilities. Becoming a seed source for a new tree. Or a scrumptious meal for SOMETHING, be it bug, animal or bird. And if our fruit falls to the ground? It becomes an all-important nutrient source for other plants, and the continuance of life. That life that just keeps on going, relentlessly, over the horizon of time and space. And if lucky, and our little apple managed to stay healthy, supple and sweet, maybe even a filler for a most excellent kitchen pie. Each end result has a purpose, and one of these WILL be realized. Sooner or later. We just may not know which applies, until the apple finally leaves the tree.

In the case of my apple, it took the direct route to the ground below. Finally falling from the tree after a very very long time on the branch. All too soon returning to from whence it came. The very soil of life. Becoming one again with the earth, moving forward in that constant march of time. Recycled back to the basic building blocks of biological life, to be used by others, again and again. Helping along the next generation that takes up the very mantle of being. Over and over and over again. The cycle never ends. Nothing ever reaches a true, final horizon. It just circles back to the beginning once more. It makes you stop, take a moment or two to sit and think. And not just about a nice weekend in Toledo.

Thanks for stopping in, and checking up on a small fruit of mine.

Thanks for stopping in and viewing a few more images of my lumpy fruit turned to nothingness. Excerpts From Late-Night Conversations With A Mechanical Cat

Fact Number 141

Sort:

You made me think of Harry Chapin's song, Circle.

All my life's a circle;
Sunrise and sundown;
Moon rolls through the nighttime;
'Til the daybreak comes around.

All my life's a circle;
But I can't tell you why;
Season's spinning round again;
The years keep rollin' by.

It seems like I've been here before;
I can't remember when;
But I have this funny feeling;
That we'll all be together again.
No straight lines make up my life;
And all my roads have bends;
There's no clear-cut beginnings;
And so far no dead-ends.

Glad it reminded you of a nice song, it is rather apropos. I liked Harry. He had a lot to say. Life IS like a big giant circle at times, that's for sure. Then moves on to the next cycle. Even if it is about a lumpy fruit ( :
Hope you have a nice weekend, and it's finally decent weather there.

I see a few days next week where the temperature is supposed to get up into the upper 60s.

I miss Harry. Especially when I think of all the songs that were left unwritten.

It is sad when a true artist passes away. They often have so much un-finished business, and no one can finish it for them, in the same way. And as you say, those that would have come out in the future. I suppose that is part of the beauty of life, the individual and uniqueness of everyone. How boring it would be otherwise.

Oh you are so singing my song on this post. I tend to ruminate on the same such matter of life, and the end of it...what it all means, or doesnt. Often brings me to the same conclusion. It is all going to end eventually. No one gets out alive. Hence I strive to enjoy the most oout of each day and moment. To that end I dont take myself too seriously. After all in 100 years, is it really going to be a big deal? However, one cannot just do and act however one wishes. There must be a least some thought given to the idea of balance. So so important!

Don't know how I missed this. This is an interesting theme of life to ruminate upon. I try not to dwell on it all too much, as it can bring you down quite a bit. But all part of this big thing called life, I suppose. And I've ALWAYS subscribed to the OG view of life, and never taken much of anything too seriously. As you say, it all comes out in the warsh. Though doing the 'right thing' has always been a big thing with me. The world has so many folks doing whatever they want, whenever. Just doesn't work out well, for the masses and the better of the world. Just for them now and then. Very egocentric. And to me, beyond the purpose of it all. Thanks for stopping in and the nice comment about life. I do so enjoy our discussions of 'things' of importance. Even if they are not really all that important. It ALL is ( :

Ooh, I love that. Sums the little fruit's life up in a very wonderful way. Thanks for that, made my Sunday. You are so very adept at these writings. My sad little fruit that will go on into infamy. Or something ( :
Cheers to a nice Sunday in May

Thanks DD. So glad you enjoyed it:)

Oh, the poor little Golden Apple of Deliciousness. Wherefore art thou?

Time waits for no one, does it, especially the unfirm. Was it the SnOwregon moment that dashed the chance of a happily ever after dream we all carry around, deep inside our hearts?

Will it be realized before we take the plunge back? Will we even know, or realize that this is our happiness? Things are as they should be. How I wish you could have said goodbye to your little Golden friend, but, sometimes, its best this way. There is no wondering if you should bite into the flesh of his goodness and devour him in two big bites or save him and throw him into the mix of things and cobble him up? Oh, yes... he took the best way out.

Closing his eyes and letting fate take him.

It makes you stop, take a moment or two and think.

Yes... That.

Upped and Steemed

Thanks for the wonderful reply. My little apple shall go down in history, and you have done it justice as well. If you can't get emotional about a sad little fruit, what else IS there ( :
You've also given me an idea for a future series. I shall leave it to the imagination, as that is always a whole lot more fun than reality. Or at least more exciting. Thanks for the up and steem and tip. Muchly appreciated. And glad yo enjoyed my little memorial to my unfirm friend. Loved that. Hope your Sunday in May is a bonny good one. Cheers and keep on smiling. I know I am...

Excellent article! It’s the truth of life indeed! ;)

It makes me stop, take “three” moment (not “a” or “two”) to sit and think. ;D (Sorry, I'm just kidding!)

In the meantime, I love to see beauty of the white long trace after the jet.
Great capture. ;))

Well written, as always! ;)))

Thanks, glad you like my jet contrail. Though I didn't make it, only pointed the camera 'up'. ( :
And I'm glad my story made you take three moments, as they say "three's a charm". Do you have that saying in Thailand? Maybe not. But I thought, being curious D, I would find out. Thanks for the writing compliment, very nice to hear. Have a nice day, GFF, and keep on smiling. Cheers

You're welcome! Though you didn't make the jet contrail, you did great capture and that can make nice photo as well. ;)

Um! Our saying for "three" is: "three persons are better than one or two" - working as team can make excellent work more than doing it alone or two..... I'm not sure whether it's the same meaning as yours or not. Please let me know, Mr. Curious D!

Have a wonderful night, GFF! I always smile widely when reading your articles or comments, for sure.... ;)))

Oops, I actually had that saying wrong. It's supposed to be Third Times' A Charm, meaning that if you try something three times, it is likely to happen. Also a saying of good luck. Not sure where I got that other part. Maybe too late at night ( :
I guess it is similar to the real one. So that is a bit different than your saying. I like yours, and so true. More people make a job go easier. And if three people try to do a job three times, it is a Charmed Nine-'er. I just made that up...maybe I will make it into Wikipedia O :

Oh! That's very good meaning, "good luck". I'll always try three times in everything in the future, I promised, so I'll have good luck forever. Ah! At least, I already "took “three” moment to sit and think. ;)

I'm glad that you like our saying.

Oh! Your own new saying is great..... "a Charmed Nine-'er". You must make it into Wikipedia DD, right now! ;))

Sad to see the weather hit it so hard but you can rest easy knowing it has done its bit to help the garden grow around the tree

Yes, we got socked pretty good. But as you say, the benefits are many. And I got about 13 posts out of our Snowmageddon too ( :
We're in a somewhat droughty time, so rain and snow look good about now. We can never be happy with the weather, I suppose. Have a nice day.

Yes I guess it would get boring if we always had perfect weather, but a nice balance of the seasons would be nice, luckily we did not get to much snow this Winter, but spring has been so much rain, a would love even just one nice sunny weekend some time soon LOL

Its in apple's heaven now... or maybe become an apple zombie and its terrifying the entire fruit community! In that case you will have to become an apple zombie hunter and find a way to kill it cause...eh... how the heck you kill a zombie fruit? Wait... this just opened a pandora's box.... what a fruit zombie eat? Fruits does not have brains... maybe seeds? So a fruit zombie eat seeds and you kill a regular zombie by cutting the head, how you kill a fruit zombie? Taking their skin out? What will happen if a human eat one of those sweet zombies? OMG, should we get worry? I think we have to alert the highest authorities cause we're about to face a catastrophe!

Hmmm, now you've given me a whole DAY of things to ponder. Like how to kill a zombie applefruit, and what their funky skin means. I think you should write movies. You'd be rich and famous. I think a fruit zombie would eat snack foods. Only. That adds a wrinkle. Kind of like the Slim Whitman music killing the aliens in that one movie. Cracked me up. As you always seem to do. Thanks for the zombie take on my fruits of the day. Well, I hope your Sunday is a good one. And not too dag gum HOT. Cheers
