新宿住友ビル　
The street piano at the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building

西新宿エリアにも、street pianoがあります。まず、新宿住友ビルの「三角広場」です。

There is also a street piano in the Nishi-Shinjuku area of my home town. A grand piano is placed in the "Triangle Square" of the Shinjuku Sumitomo Building.

新宿住友ビルは超高層ビルですが、地上階は吹き抜けになっていて、まるでサンルームのように日が差し込むのが特徴です。ピアノの美しい音色が広場全体に響きます。

The Shinjuku Sumitomo Building is a skyscraper, but the ground floor is a colonnade, and the feature is that the sun shines like a solarium. Here, the sound of the piano echoes throughout the square, so you can enjoy very good-sounding music.

東京都庁舎展望台
The street piano at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building Observatory

東京都庁舎の展望台にも、都民から寄付されたstreet pianoが設置されていました。

A street piano was also installed on the observatory of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building as a donation from the citizens of Tokyo.

このピアノには、前衛芸術家・草間彌生の描く、黄色の地色に黒いドットのモチーフがペイントされています。もしかしたら、芸術価値の高いものかもしれません。

This piano is painted with a black dot motif on a yellow background drawn by avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama. Perhaps this piano has a very high artistic value.

ちなみに下記は、瀬戸内海の島「直島」に行ったときに私が撮影した、草間彌生の代表作の一つ、「かぼちゃ」のモニュメントです。これは黄色いかぼちゃですが、直島には「赤かぼちゃ」のモニュメントもあります。

By the way, the following is a monument of "Pumpkin", one of Yayoi Kusama's masterpieces, which I took when I went to the island "Naoshima" in the Seto Inland Sea.

The street piano at Vancouver International Airport

忘れがたいのが、2019年2月、バンクーバー空港でのできごとです。

An unforgettable memory of the street piano is the event at Vancouver International Airport in February 2019.

その日はひどい雪で、バンクーバーから乗り継ぐはずだった国内線が遅れました。私は友人と2人、空港で長い時間を過ごすことになりました。

It was a terrible snow that day. Although the flight from Narita to Vancouver was on time, the domestic connecting flight was very delayed. I ended up spending a long time at the airport with my friends.

空港ロビーの、広いフードコートの前にグランドピアノが置かれていました。プロが仕事として弾いているのだと思い、はじめはあまり気に留めていませんでした。
彼は非常に上手に弾き終わったあと、スーツケースを引いて去っていきました。初めて、「これが、噂に聞いていたstreet pianoらしい・・・」と、気づきました。

There was a grand piano in front of the large food court in the airport lobby. A very good person was playing, so I thought that a professional was playing as a job.

After playing very well, he pulled his suitcase and left. "This is the street piano I've heard in rumors!" I realized for the first time.

いろいろな人がピアノを奏でては、去っていきました。それはまるで旅そのもので、空港という場にピアノがあるのは、ふさわしいことのように思えました。

Various people played the piano and left. Staying at the piano, playing, and then leaving, it was like a journey. Having a piano at the airport seemed like a good thing.

外は零下の寒さであるのにもかかわらず、空港の中はあたたかでした。わたしはフードコートで買ったフローズンヨーグルトを食べながら、旅人たちの演奏を十分に楽しみました。

Despite the cold outside, the inside of the airport was warm. I enjoyed the performances of the travelers while eating the frozen yogurt I bought at the food court.
