Let´s participate in another great challenge from Steemit´s 100 Days of Steem.

This time the topic is about your country. I am Dutch, but we live in Spain because the weather sucks in the Netherlands. Why spend your life in a place where the dominant color is grey? Not for us, so we chose the tropical island of Mallorca as our home, here is why.

MALLORCA - SPAIN / The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

Mallorca is the biggest island of the Balearics. These 5 islands are located a few hundred kilometers from the coast of Barcelona, mainland Spain. We are Europeans and the main languages are Spanish and Catalan.

Mallorca has an autonomous government, and due to some troubles in the past, the locals feel more Mallorquin (locals name) then Spanish. To honor my friends and neighbors, I am going to show you what this little island is all about!

✔️ 5 Things I like about Mallorca

1. Size. It is only 3300km (100km to 70km)
2. 550km of coastline and beaches
3. Government actions and initiatives against climate change
4. Outgoing people. Whenever festivities or festivals are held, it's packed
5. The weather (300 sunny days a year)
6. (bonus) Low winter season. In the summertime, it's super crowded with tourists, from December till May the Island is ours
7. (bonus) Free healthcare. (When self-employed or under contract, health care is free)
8. (bonus) Stunning mountains and cliffs. We love hiking and horse riding. This is THE place.

❌ 5 Things I don´t like about Mallorca.

1. This is going to be empty. We have chosen to live here, so there is nothing we don't like. Focus on what you have, instead of what you don´t have.

5 Things people misunderstood

1. When talking to tourists, the most tell us that they didn't know it was this beautiful. In Europe, Mallorca is known for his wild nights and parties. A bit like Ibiza if you have ever heard of that. But when you go of the beaten track, something extraordinary will reveal.
2. Only German tourists. Yes and no. It used to be the place to be for German people, but nowadays more and more tourists from all over the world are visiting us.

5+1 Unusual facts about Mallorca.

1. It was Pirates Island. Many pirates have chosen Mallorca as its safe haven and place to store their loot.
2. The woman have defended the island against many invaders. (man were dead or at war)
3. A big Roman settlement and loads of old artifacts dug up.
4. The feared Roman Slingshots are from Mallorca
5. We are an Island and have to import water
6. The modern way of making wine is invented in Mallorca and spread by monks in Europe.
7. The music composer Chopin lived here with his muse George San.
