Meeting Steemians for the first time, เจอเพื่อนสตีมเมียนครั้งแรกที่กรุงเทพฯ

Last week I finally met some friends from Steemit community in Bangkok! I planned to take my Steemian friend from Japan, @noopu for a tour of China town. The communication line gave us quite a bit of problems; @noopu’s internet connection at home did not work properly so we had several missed calls. Finally, @noopu had to use her mother’s mobile phone for a while till the internet connection at home got fixed.

@noopu met @mayasiam for an early lunch so they came to meet me by Sathon Bridge. I took them in a local bus without air conditioner! Luckily, the weather was very nice and the bus was relatively empty! I would like to show them the life style of everyday Thai people. The driver of this bus was rather gentle in his driving style, some bus driver drove the bus like a racing car!

@noopu was quite frightened when crossing the roads in China Town. We have to be very careful when crossing the roads in Thailand as people don’t understand the true meaning of zebra crossing. One must be decisive and show one’s intention firmly when crossing the roads here! Be nimble and flexible to stay alive too!

We didn’t have the time to pay respect to the golden Buddha in Wat Traimitr. So, we went to pay respect to the sandsalwood Kuan Yin statue in Tienfa Foundation. This shrine was built during the reign of King Rama 5th in 1903. A group of pioneering overseas Chinese who emigrated to Siam over two hundred years ago established a free hospital called Tienfa hospital for giving free medical help to poor Chinese immigrants. Later a foundation was set up for people to donate to this hospital. This Kuan Yin statue was acquired from China for the Shrine so that sick people in the hospital could do their prayers for better health and speedy recovery.

I usually go there during the New Year to donate some money to the hospital. Both @noopu and @mayasiam donated some money to buy medicine for the poor at the foundation too. So, we felt very good afterwards, good karma at the beginning of the year!

I didn’t expect the black clouds to burst upon us so heavily. So I took them into a well known gold shop to walk around briefly, we were mesmerized by all the shinny gold bracelets and necklaces. We finally settled down for some Chinese tea at a special tea shop. The first tea that @noopu and @mayasiam liked very much was called Tae Kuan Yin. The second tea had a long name, it was from Bai Du mountain in Taiwan.

As we spent some time drinking tea and chatting, we could not see all the places I had in mind. Then we went to Gong Wu Shrine where photography was not allowed! The Red-face Chinese guardian is famous for his honesty and integrity. People who would like to be successful in their career come here to request this Chinese guardian’s favour. There’s also a statue of Gong Wu’s horse in the shrine. People believe that praying to this horse will help with their children’s progress at school and this horse could make their children more obedient too.

Under time constraint, we went through the traditional Chinese market in a small lane to browse at various shops selling all kind of Chinese ingredients from herbs, tea leaves, beans, pickled vegetables, seafoods, ducks, etc. Then we had another rest at a Dim Sum shop where we had more Chinese tea and some Chinese snacks.

The other shrine, the oldest in the whole of Thailand was already closed, it was built in 1658 during Ayutthaya period. So, we could only see the front door and the old houses nearby being taken over by tree roots. This oldest shrine is called Leng Buay Earr.

The next stop was the famous Chinese temple that also has a monastery to train young novices. This temple is called Dragon Temple in Thai or Leng Nei Yee in Chinese. This is the place where most Chinese people would come to pray at the beginning of a new year. People also come here for special ceremony to cure their bad lucks or adverse astrological influences in particular years.

It was almost closing time so the temple was quite empty of people and we just walked around quietly. I paid my respect to the three big Buddhas and asked the Chinese God of Fortune for some assistance. Perhaps I shall have to go back again to ask him to help with my Steemit posting rewards!

@noopu and @mayasiam were very fit and good walkers. They didn’t faint during my speedy tour guide! I wish I had more time to take them to see more interesting places in China Town. There are one gold museum, one strange art gallery and a secret place for buying pure silver for jewelry makers. On the other side, there’s an antique market! This road is just amazing for me, I still haven’t covered all the two square miles!

@noopu and @mayasiam had been through an adventure with me, walking along the small back alleys where only local people walked through daily. These shortcuts took us to the pier so that we could take the express boat back to where we first met. The sunset was hanging in the sky to make sure we had caught the right boat. It was a nice journey back, we could see the river and the city lights started to glow among the buildings on both sides of the river.

It’s getting dark so my program for dinner had to be postponed. I wanted to take @noopu and @mayasism to a local street food specializing in seafoods!

We did enjoy ourselves very much during our short tour! It’s just amazing to be able to make friends via Steemit platform. This is a place where like-mind people could find each other and learn to know each other through time so friendship can be formed. I am very lucky to have made connection with @noopu, @mayasism and @kendewitt and met them in person! I am very grateful to their kindness and they have “taught” me various things about which I had no ideas before. I hope that I will have the opportunity to take them on a tour of Nongkhai some day.

สัปดาห์ก่อนพึ่งได้พบกับเพื่อนชาวสตีมเมี่ยนสองคนที่กรุงเทพฯ @noopu &@mayasiam. ตอนแรกมีปัญหาด้านการติดต่อกันเพราะมีปัญหาด้านอินเตอร์เนท ในที่สุดก็ได้เจอกันที่ สถานีตากสินหรือสะพานสาทรตอนบ่ายต้นๆ ในฐานะเป็นผู้นำทัวร์ก็พาสองสหายขึ้นรถเมล์ร้อนดิ่งตรงไปถนนเยาวราช. เพื่อไปเที่ยวย่านเมืองคนจีน หรือไชน่าเทาวน์นั่นเอง

รถเมล์คันนี้ไม่ค่อยซิ่ง เลยไม่มีอะไรตื่นเต้น แต่ก็ทำเวลาได้ดีมาก. เราลงที่ป้ายตรงข้ามวัดไตรมิตรแต่ไม่มีเวลาข้ามไปนมัสการหลวงพ่อทองคำ. เพราะมีเวลาจำกัด ไกด์เลยพาไปไหว้เจ้าแม่กวนอิมที่มูลนิธิเทียนฟ้า. เจ้าแม่กวนอิมนี้ทำจากไม้จันทน์หอมแกะสลักจากประเทศจีน. แต่ก่อนพ่อค้าจีนที่มาอยู่ในสยามได้ร่วมกันสร้างโรงพยาบาลเทียนฟ้าไว้รักษาคนจีนที่ยากจนโดยไม่คิดเงิน. เมื่อมีคนมาช่วยบริจาคเงินจึงตั้งมูลนิธิเทียนฟ้าขึ้น. ต่อมาศาลเจ้าแม่กวนอิมถูกสร้างในปี 2446 ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5. เพื่อให้ผู้ป่วยมีที่สวดมนต์และขอกำลังใจให้หายป่วยไวๆ

จากนั้นก็พาเดินไปตามถนนเยาวราช ดูร้านค้าและป้ายภาษาจีนสองข้างทาง. แต่ฝนตกลงมาอย่างไม่คาดคิด. พยายามเดินหลบฝนเข้าไปดูทองในร้านใหญ่จนตาลาย. ฝนยังไม่หยุด. ก็ไปแวะดื่มน้ำชาจีนและคุยไปจนกว่าฝนจะหยุด เราจึงพาไปดูที่ศาลเจ้าพ่อกวนอู. แต่เขาห้ามถ่ายรูปแล้ว. เจ้าพ่อกวนอูเป็นสัญญลักษณ์ของความซื่อสัตย์ คนที่ต้องการความสำเร็จในหน้าที่การงานมักจะมาขอพรจากท่าน ในศาลเจ้านี้มีรูปปั้นจำลองของม้าของท่านกวนอูด้วย. คนจีนเชื่อว่าถ้าอยากให้เด็กไม่ดื้อและเรียนหนังสือเก่ง ก็ต้องมาขอพรจากเจ้าพ่อม้าที่นี่

เราเดินต่อไปที่ตลาดเก่าที่คนจีนชอบไปจ่ายตลาด. เพราะมีทุกอย่างที่ต้องการใช้ในการทำอาหาร มีตั้งแต่เมล็ดถั่ว ผลไม้ ผักดอง เหล้าจีนและของแห้งที่มาจากจีน. เราไปพักกันที่ร้านติมซำ เพื่อชิมก๋วยเตี๋ยวหลอดและขนมจีบ เติมพลังเสร็จก็เดินไปวัดมังกรกมลาวาสหรือวัด เล่งเน่นยี่ที่คนจีนจะต้องไปไห้วตอนช่วงปีใหม่. เพื่อขอพรจากเทพเจ้าแห่งโชคลาภ ไฉ่ซึ้งเอี่ย บางคนจะมาทำพิธีสะเดาะห์เคราะห์ถ้าเป็นปีที่ชงกับปีเกิดของตนเอง เราไปตอนใกล้เวลาปิด จึงมีเวลาเดินดูประมาณสิบห้านาที. พระพุทธรูปสามองค์ที่เป็นประธานในศาลเจ้ายิ้มต้อนรับเรา เหมือนดีใจที่มีชาวสตีมเมียนมาเจอกันได้และพากันดั้นด้นฝ่าฝนและรถติด มาไห้วท่านได้ก่อนเวลาปิดเล็กน้อย

จากนั้นเราเดินลัดเลาะไปตามซอยแคบๆที่คนในพื้นที่ใช้เป็นประจำ เพื่อให้เห็นวิถีชีวิตของคนจีนที่ยังคงใช้แรงงานเข็นรถขนของส่งตามร้านต่างๆในเยาวราช เราไปขึ้นเรือด่วนที่ท่านํ้าราชวงศ์เพื่อกลับไปที่ท่าสาทร พระอาทิตย์กำลังตกและแสงเริ่มสลัว เราได้ดูวิวแม่น้ำและตึกตามริมทางที่เริ่มเปิดแสงไฟให้สว่างไสว พอถึงท่าเรือสาทรก็เห็นไฟสว่างจ้าที่เอเซียติ๊ก แต่เราไม่มีเวลาไปเที่ยวแล้ว เราสามคนจึงต้องลากันที่ สถานีรถไฟฟ้าสาทร เพราะ @noopu & @mayasiam ต้องเดินทางไกลกว่าจะกลับถึงที่บ้าน เราสามคนคงจะได้เที่ยวด้วยกันอีกเมื่อโอกาสอำนวย อีกหน่อยคงอยากให้มาเที่ยวอีสาน ที่หนองคายมาสัมผัสกับธรรมชาติและชีวิตช้าๆ แบบซโลไลฟท์กันบ้าง
