Thai is hard...

in #thai6 years ago

My first Thai lesson is behind me....

The teacher and me ( more her ) had a good laugh about my pronunciation and I feel like I have no idea what was going on and what I am actually doing but it was still fun while frustrating as well.

I had often problems hearing the difference of what she was saying and therfore what I was supposed to say.

Hopefully I will figure that out though in the coming day and weeks.

I forgot how exciting it can be if you do something for the first time but also how frustrated it can be if it does not work out as you hoped.

The pronunciation is totally different from what I am used to as a german native speaker and also totally different of what I have learned from the english language.

But it will be a good thing to learn a language which has no latin origin.

Always when I though "ok I think I understand this now" there came something to throw me off again but well it has only been 2 hours so far...

Yep; that’s not gonna be easy ! But damn rewarding once you pick it up

today it was already better

It's tonal. One word means one thing and another a next.

that is not good for me as I dont hear the different often :-(

Thank you for being here for me, so I can be here for you.
Enjoy your day and stay creative!
Botty loves you. <3

The good thing is that if you were to learn you would speak 3 languages, no? It must be annoying to see your teacher laugh at you.

With the practice you will improve. 😋

was not so bad :-)

it is getting better with every hour

I hope you learn soon and tell us how you are doing with this process

hehe seems like it will get more interesting to learn this language :D

it will :-)

Keep plugging away. Thai is surprisingly easy compared to most languages as grammatically it is quite simple. It gets far more complex when the tones are involved, but it took me about a month - maybe two - to get the basics down in Thai.

It also took me about five months before I could say more than one word answers in Italian, and I was living there at the time! Don't pressure yourself and work at your own pace. And most importantly, enjoy it!

Remember, you've only studied for 2 hours. You won't start seeing any noticeable effect until at least a couple of weeks :-)

That sounds pretty good! Tomorrow is my next class so can only get better :-)

Keep at it, at least four times a week otherwise it will go in one ear and out the other. Be positive, and remember that it can take years before a person can be conversational in a new language. Yeah it's hard, but this time next year you'll be looking back saying, "I did it..."

second session today and it felt already better. Will be practising a bit today and next session tomorrow

Just make sure you practice at home afterwards, otherwise you'll forget everything you did in the lesson. Go out and practice it with random Thai people as well until you feel comfortable with what you are saying
