In 1912-1913, on behalf of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ottoman Empire, the Constantinople Patriarchate of the Armenian Apostolic Church was to draw up a list of active Armenian churches on the territory of the empire.

According to statistics collected by Archbishop Magomir Ormanyan, the number of Armenian churches operating in Western Armenia (not counting the historical Cilicia, Constantinople and other regions) by that time was 2,200. Of this number, 2,150 churches were looted and damaged (some destroyed) in the years The Armenian Genocide.

Dr. Raymond Gevorgyan in his work "Les Arméniens dans l'Empire Ottoman à la veille du génocide", published in 1992 in Paris, based on unpublished data from archives of the Constantinople Patriarchate of the AAC, leads 2,528 churches, 451 monasteries and about 2,000 schools . To date, outside Istanbul, the Armenians have only 6 functioning churches and not a single monastery.

After 1928, the process of changing the Armenian toponymy of populated areas, rivers, lakes, mountains and other objects in this territory began, which occurred several times. For example, the Moks settlement in Vaspurakan province was renamed into Mukyus, then to Bakhchisarai and eventually to Husseiniye, Berdakh became Dinlendzhe, Andzai-Görüşlu, Sevan-Ortaca, Aren-Gölduzlu. Ajn turned into Saimbayli in honor of the organizer of Armenian pogroms in Ajna itself in 1920. Also, the island of Akhtamar was renamed Akdamar, the city of Ani in Ana (which by chance means "memory" in Turkish), Mount Ararat in the mountain of Agra, and the surviving monuments were presented without reference to their Armenian origin.

According to UNESCO data, out of 913 temples that survived the pogroms of 1915, by 1974 464 had been completely destroyed, 252 were in ruins, and 197 were subject to immediate restoration under threat of destruction. Today Turkey is a member of UNESCO, but there is a huge amount of evidence and facts that the Government of Turkey is still destroying the Armenian cultural heritage on its territory.
