TELEPATHY IS REAL!

Telepathy has been a science fiction staple for ages, but the ability to read someone’s mind has always been just a fantasy — until now. The Wyss Center for Bio and Neuro-engineering in Geneva Switzerland has announced that four of their patients, suffering from complete paralysis, have been able to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions simply by using their minds!

These patients are classified as “Locked In,” which means they are no longer able to use any of their motor skills to communicate with other people. Despite being mentally sound and self-aware, they are completely isolated from the rest of the world. Even their eye muscles no longer function. But now communication has been re-established thanks to the creation of a new BCI (brain-computer-interface).

The BCI uses near infrared spectroscopy to measure changes in blood-oxygenation levels in the frontal lobes of the patient’s brain. Using this technique, researchers were able to ask ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions and get 70% accurate responses. It is the hope of the researchers that this new technology will be refined and expanded so that in the future, paralysis and stroke victims will have a new way to communicate despite their severe motor impairments.

I believe someday soon, we’ll be able to communicate with each other directly, mind to mind, and telepathy will become both a powerful and intimate way to bring everyone closer together. The discoveries and creative achievements of our race will accelerate when there is a direct link between our minds. Solving problems will never be easier. Understanding how each of us sees the world will allow us to realize, at long last, we’re not that different from each other after all.
