Gas flaring and it's effects on humans and plants!
On our way for vacation, several times now, we see gas flaring somewhere around Umutu-Ebedei in Delta state. Obviously, there is a gas plant or industry there.

What is gas flaring?
A gas flare, alternatively known as a flare stack, is a gas combustion device used in industrial plants such as petroleum refineries, chemical plants, natural gas processingplants as well as at oil or gas production sites having oil wells, gas wells, offshore oil and gas rigs and landfills.

Effects of gas flaring
There are several implications of gas flare on humans and plants as well. Health hazards, environmental hazards and lots more.
Gas flaring has condemned severally in different countries of the world. Though the practice is still obtainable in some countries with many calling for a stop, the negative effects of gas flaring on the environment and humans is adverse. Gas flaring have impoverished the communities where it is practiced, with attendant environmental, economic and health challenges. The difficulties faced by local communities from gas flares are a sufficient justification for ending gas flaring practice. Fines by defaulting companies should be so exorbitant so as to deter them.
It causes climate change, acid rains, agricultural damage, cancer, neurological problems, reproductive and developmental effecta, deformation of children, lung and skin damage, destryction of blood cells causing anaemia, leukamia and pancytopenia, several economic loss, air, water and soil pollution and lots more.
The gas can be processed and produced into cooking/domestic gas.

I was thinking deep within me why ailments and hunger seem to be on the increase in Nigeria and i realized from this study that oil has done more harm than good to this country.
People lived longer and were less ill before several industries were built in our communities.
There was much more food and more healthy individuals.
We should try as much as possible not to live in such arears.
Industries, companies, masts and such innovations should be secluded from residential areas as the country is large enough.
