Can robots help children learn

It's a good bet that in a few years time, robots will be massively important in helping kids learn.

In fact, as the article from ScienceNews linked below shows, they are already being used in classrooms.

It seems that a well designed robot can make learning fun, using gamification techniques, but also by creating something that is simply more fun for a child to interact with. Kids are very imaginative, and have a special kind of affinity with robots. They can use their imagination to fill in limitations with robots scripting language, and chat with, listen to and otherwise treat even basic robots as sentient, social beings!

The classroom robots aren't meant to replace teachers, but rather complement them, which is especially important in crowded classrooms where a teacher might not be able to give any one child lots of individual attention.

There are loads of usecases for classroom robots, from helping distill information on every subject, to encouraging langauge language and interaction skills, focus and memory, and hand to eye coordination. With improvements in AI, these usecases will expand, to include grading and even monitor a child's engagement and emotions.

Of course, this does raise questions about the amount of data machines would have to collect and store, and privacy implications.
