Early Warfare

Primitive people didn't need to engage in warfare as it is understood today. Stone Age communities saw warring as a brief ritual skirmish fought to resolve some tribal issues.

The Coming of War:
The huntsman bow was one of the first tools adapted by Stone Age man as a weapon. The battle scene in a cave at Morella in Spain, dates back to 6000 BC.

The First Armies:
When city - states developed a centralized government, disciplined armies were organized. Soldiers were lined up in ranks, wearing uniform helmets and protected by formations of shields. Metal spear tips and copper axes heads were then in use. The Sumerian ' Stele of the Vultures.' from 2600 BC, is the earliest known representation of an army in the field.

Siege Warfare:
Most of the world's first cities were walled for defense and the siege of a town would have been one of the the first major enterprises. The Greek vessel Mycenae, dated back to 1600BC and about the oldest known.

Chariots of War:
War chariots, drawn by donkeys or asses were used in Mesopotamia during the 3rd millennium BC. This happened at the same time as the horse was being domesticated in Central Asia. By the 16th century BC the Egyptians were using a horse - drawn vehicle as their shock weapon. The first great chariot war, was fought between Egyptians and Hittites at Kade shows in Syria in 1294 BC. The Egyptians won.

Cavalry came about:
Though marauding horsemen have long roamed of Asia, the Assyrians had the first disciplined cavalry units. The deployment of cavalry remained a key of victory until the WW2.

Phalanx against Legion :

The Macedonian phalanx, deployed by Phillip 11 in the 4th century BC, comprised 16 mass ranks of soldiers armed with long lances. The heavy infantry formation became popular and seemed invincible by 168BC. The Romans caused divisions in their ranks, taking the Macedonians from flank and rear.

Naval Battles:

The development of warships lagged strongly behind military technology. The Greeks lead naval battle by building ships that could hold a significant fighting force, yet swift and maneuverable as well. With 3 tiers of oarsmen, they represented an important advantage.

Siege Weaponry.

The Greeks developed catapults for breech ingredients enemy fortifications, but the Romans perfected the technology of the siege. Among their devices were ' the scorpion' ( a giant crossbow) and the siege tower, which enabled them to cast a drawbridge across the top of the enemy's wall stop gain access to the city.

I wonder what those soldiers would say about what we have today. They set the tone however. The weaponry of WW2 is basically obsolete, with such remarkable weapons of war. Who would ever have thought of a tiny drone gathering information or set of a huge bomb blast. War technology is most definitely advancing by leaps and bounds.

Todays warfare is AI. Swift and deadly.

Indeed.

God forbid the day should come when war will be with AI as Man's opponent.

Imagine an earth where the dominant power is not a sentient organic race but a mere electronically controlled mechanical collection of AI bots, mining, designing, manufacturing and powering themselves into the future based on the deep-learning capacities we've built into them.

They may be capable of intergalactic travel and domination.

An ominous dark imagining of the Stargate author come true.

So interesting. And today's warfare is all about bombs and nuclear power. It's not about who is the most skilled anymore, but rather who has the most explosives to offer. Let's just pray we don't have a 3rd world war!

It's sad that man have been bludgeoning and massacring each other since the beginning of time. And with time, weapons have become more sophisticated with technology to destroy masses in record time.

I can see a day when there will be peace on Earth, globally.
