Hiking at Timpangoh, Babagon Penampang

Sabah is blessed with so many beautiful places. From the Mountain high to the Ocean deep, we have everything. Hiking is one of thousand activities that can portray the beauty of Sabah.

Kg Timpangoh, Babagon is located in Penampang area. It is not too near and not too far. I would say that it is on the edge of the Crocker Range. If you are adventurous, you could find a short cut to Tambunan or Keningau from Timpangoh Babagon, but with a proper guide. Please dont try it, you might lost and got eaten by living predator inside the rainforest 🤣 .

What you need to bring to go there? As usual, you must have a good hiking shoes (ok i wear columbia 😂🤣). Most hikers love to wear Adidas Kampung. It is cheap and comfortable, power grip and easy to get. Do not waste your money with expensive hiking shoes. Please check my previous post about Adidas Kampung.

Other than that, you must bring enough water, suitable machete ( not a sword) , mosquito repellent, basic first aid kit and of course your own food because you couldn't find any cafe or restaurant inside the jungle 🤣 .

It will take you approximately 20 minutes to drive from Kota Kinabalu to Babagon (Penampang-Tambunan road) and another 15 minutes from Babagon to the starting point, somewhere at Kg Timpangoh.

The hiking trail is around 12KM. The trail is moderate to hard but the view is amazing. You will have to walk through a lemon grass and pineapple farm, then 4KM jungle trail (mix with primary and secondary forest) , small rubber estate and isolated or remote village. I couldn't recall the name of the village because to be honest, we have actually went to a wrong trail and got lost , the trail going to the heart of Crocker Range... the hunter's trail. Thank you for the advancement of technology, we managed to find our way back to the ending point.

The view along the trail is extremely awesome where you will see beautiful lemon grass and fruit farms. At one point, you can see the Babagon Dam and also the wide, dense and green view of the Crocker Range. Personally, i don't even care about the view anymore because i was too tired and we got lost for a while, the most important things that juggling in my mind on that time was to go back 🙈. For safety, you need to bring friend who is familiar with the trail.

To be honest, i went there to check the trail for the upcoming What The Hill event. We supposedly to co-organize the event but due to some circumstances, we opted not to organize this year. Maybe next year? Please check Sport Prank Trail Running Team or What The Hill at Facebook for latest update. Anyway, it was a nice trip, seriously.
