Independence Day

31st August 1957 was Malaysia's independence day. This coming 31st August 2018, some Malaysians may be celebrating with extra vigour as we are now governed by another political party - Pakatan Harapan and not Barisan Nasional. Some are of the opinion we are now free from Najib's perceived corrupted government and thus a day to celebrate. Some are of the opinion that bringing back Mahathir is a step backwards as he intends to proceed with his 3rd national car project.

Here's a very unpopular opinion and somewhat politically incorrect. To me, what's more important is that Malaysians regardless of race work together to make Malaysia a more harmonious, prosperous and educated country. I do hope Malaysia reduces its political interferences in education and economy. Too many politicians we have are brainless and would say anything contentious just to get political support and popularity. If Mahathir says cash handouts must stop as it acts as a tongkat, the NEP must also be scrapped in future to stop handicapping the Malays and indigenous people.

To be truly regarded as equals regardless of skin colour, every Malaysian must be treated the same and a level playing field must be accommodated to all Malaysians. I'd say if SJKCs and SJKTs were to be abolished, the NEP must go too. No race should be given priority due to their status. We need the best brains to compete with the rest of the world and a quota based system will only cause brain drain.
