Australia's Greatest Car Race -The Bathhurst 1000 Supercar Race
This Sunday, the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is run at Mount Panorama raceway just outside Bathurst New South Wales Australia. This is one of the favourite races for Motor Car race fans here in Australia. Many fans treat it like a pilgrimage traveling 1000's km to camp beside the track to enjoy the thrills, spills and great fun not just of race day but the qualifying events, many other races featuring other classes of sports cars and of course lots of parties.
Last weekend I posted about my visit to the Noosa Beach Classic Car Show, the feature marque was the Holden and one of the most famous holden cars was on display. The 1979 A9X Holden Torana was driven to victory in the 1978 touring car series and the Bathurst 1000 by Peter Brock, known as the King of the mountain. He has won more Bathurst 1000 races than anyone else and the since his tragic death in 2006 the Bathurst 1000 winners trophy has been named in his honour. His car carried the 05 number to remind everyone about his efforts in spreading the message against drunk driving.
