Can you explain what obstacles a teacher may face in the classroom learning process? (2 Points)

Well, I haven't gone deep into teaching, which is what I have done as someone who has been trained to be a good teacher, I have only practiced teaching for 6 months, and during the time me teaching, I can say that there are several obstacles that teachers face in the classroom learning process which impact their ability to teach students. Using myself as an example some of these obstacles teachers may face in the classroom learning process are:

  • Classroom Diversity:
There are diverse learning styles, and cultural backgrounds that students have, which is an obstacle to teachers that makes things difficult for teachers to create a lesson that students will get engaged in and benefit from the lessons.

  • Behavioural Issues:
Lack of discipline, disruptive behavior, and others are issues in the classroom that teachers often face which hinder the learning environment. Most teachers during my teaching practice, spend a considerable amount of time addressing issues in my classroom which disrupts my teaching time.

  • Limited Resources:
Teachers are usually faced with inadequate resources, materials, and technology in the classroom. A lot of schools have limited funding which may be a constraint to teachers. In my case, there is usually limited chalk in the entire school.

What do you think is the importance of learning contracts and how have learning contracts helped your teaching process so far? (2.5 points)

What I think is the importance of learning contract and how it has helped me in the teaching process is what I will be sharing with you here. Below is the reason why learning contracts are Important.

  • Encourage Accountability:
As a teacher having students sign onto specific goals and responsibilities is important as it helps students to be more ownership of their learning. It helps students to work hard to achieve their goals.

  • Personalised Learning:
Learning contracts allow students to work in their free time. Most students like isolating themselves which they see as the best way they can learn faster.

Other Important learning contracts are;

  • Promote goal-setting skills
  • Enhanced teachers and students communication
  • Facilities evaluation and self-reliance

How learning contracts have helped me in teaching

  • Learning contracts have provided me with the structure to differentiate instruction perfectly by setting goals based on the needs of individual students

  • It has helped me to simplify the feedback process of my students as they provide clear criteria for reviewing my student's works.

  • It has helped me to get students motivated and invested in learning.

What important components should be included in a learning contract and explain why they are helpful to you? (2.5 Points)

In a learning contract, several things are important components that help clarify goals, assessment criteria, growth, personal accountability, and responsibility are important which I have broken down below.

  • Learning Objectives:
As a teacher, you need to clearly define your goals and outline what you intend to achieve or learn. Setting a specific measurable objective can help you as a teacher to provide clear direction.

  • Resources and Strategies:
As a teacher, you need to identify the resources such as books, software, etc, and strategies that will help you to meet your objectives and structure your plan.

  • Deadlines or Timeliness:
As a teacher, you need to establish deadlines with a specific timeline that creates a sense of urgency and helps you with time management. This will help you to break down your objectives.

What are your strategies for ensuring student compliance with the learning contract and how have the consequences worked so far, or do you have other ways of organizing the learning activities to remain effective? (2 points)

Well, during my days as a teacher, I have other ways of organizing the learning activities to remain effective. What I usually do then when I enter the classroom to teach, is observe the atmosphere and the students to see if they are ready to learn or not. I usually do this to know how tired my students are to avoid them sleeping in my class.

If notice their response is low, I do ask them to stand up and jump which I move further by telling them to strengthen their bodies. Going further with other alternatives that I used to organize learning activities to remain effective.

  • Goal setting and background planning which I do identify what knowledge or skills that is required to achieve by goal and break it down weekly.

  • I do use a thematic or modular approach to organize learning activities which helps me to focus on one topic at a time.
