A great find breakfast
A good Taiwanese breakfast shop is quite hard to find nowadays. A good and cheap one is even more difficult to find. I was very pleased to find Qing Chen breakfast recently at Yilan.
This place has been around for over 40 years. It's decor is basic, and they work on a self-service model. All the food are displayed on the counter as you walk in and you choose whatever you want.
The traditional Taiwanese breakfast includes many different type of fried bread. There are also some steamed buns with different fillings.
This is the most popular food,they are fried dough sticks. They are a bit like the Spanish churros, except we dunk them in soya bean milk instead of hot chocolate.
For my breakfast I ordered a steam bun, two fried eggs because they look so nice and fresh. My wife ordered their signature food, they call it a golden box. That'a the one on the left.
The golden box is a savoury long shape bread and has spring onion inside. It was a very flavorsome but slightly greasy because it was fried.
We also ordered a fresh soy bean milk each. Having soybean milk for breakfast in the morning for the Taiwanese is like having coffee for the Westerners.
This is a cheap and cheerful food eatery so the inside is pretty basic as you don't spend long having breakfast. That's fine with me because I enjoyed it very much and it only cost USD5 for the two of us.
