The other month we went to Mr Fish Sakana to celebrate our wedding anniversary. This is a low key Japanese restaurant recommended by a friend. In fact, I walk down this street quite often and have actually walked pass the restaurant before but never noticed it!

Mr Fish is run by a guy who's been working here for 16 years. He started off as an apprentice for the previous owner, and when the owner retired, he took over the shop from him. So despite his young age he has plenty of experience under his belt. That's the guy on the left. The inside is quite small, there's a few seats in front of the working counter, and three more tables which sits 10 people.

When the owner is very friendly, and when he knew we were celebrating our anniversary, he asked if we wanted to order dishes off the menu, or whether we wanted to pay a fixed price and he would decide the dishes for us. The latter sounded a much better option, as it's alway nice to have an element of surprise. He did ask if there was anything we specifically didn't like, but we are both ok with all Japanese food. While he went off to prepare our meal, we ordered some drinks first.

The fixed price menu was around USD33 and all in all we had 9 courses. I'm going to bomb you with the photos of each now. First up is marinated mackrel and there's a piece of octopus under the sweet ginger. This was followed by sashimi. You cannot have Japanese food without having sahimi.

The third course is my absolute favourite of the entire meal. This raw prawn was packed with freshness. You can always tell if a raw prawn is fresh or not. Is texture should be succelent with a bit of stickness. The roe on top of it added another great dimension to it.

The fourth and fifth courses are the cooked food. First was a piece of pan friend fish, I forgot what fish it was, but it was fried just right with a crispy skin and retained its juiceness. Then came the stuffed chicken wing that was finished with a lovely marinade on top.

The sixth course is a trio of small bites. From the left is beef, the middle I can't quite rememeber I think it's fish, and the right is deep friend tofu.

After all this came the soup. This is a clam soup, just clam and nothing else, apart from the spring onion garnish. I could taste the freshness of the clam in the soup. It was a good course to break up the meal after the previous courses.

As if all this food wasn't enough, the eighth course was a umi and crab meat sushi. The sushi was delicious just enough to top off the meal. By now, even I was starting to feel quite full, and I normally eat quite a lot.

Luckily, this was the end of a fabalous meal, anymore food would be over doing it and ruin the whole meal. The ninth course, was a piece of Japanese apple which wrapped up the meal nicely.

You can probably tell this was a fantastic meal, and my wife was very sastified. That's good, because it means I'm in her good books for another year! T
